I'll give this a shot but I'm not much of a list guy. I'll do a 1960s-onward top 20 each English and Foreign language with only a little cheating (top 2 are the top 2 in English and all others on both lists are in no particular order). This could easily change daily but these are the usual suspects (but not The Usual Suspects).
Chinatown The Conversation GF I & II McCabe & Mrs. Miller Last Tango in Paris Mean Streets Taxi Driver Dog Day Afternoon Annie Hall/Manhattan/Hannah and Her Sisters/Crimes and Misdemeanors Unforgiven
Memento Fargo NCFOM Bonnie & Clyde Seconds (1966) Homicide (1991) Hearts of Darkness A Filmmakers Apocalypse / Apocalypse Now Blow Out Rosemary's Baby The Graduate
Foreign:
Aguirre, Wrath of God Stroszek Vivre Sa Vie Shame Hour of the Wolf The Virgin Spring Oldboy Serie Noire Spoorloos Cache
Monsieur Hire La Ceremonie Le Boucher L'Argent The Sacrifice Dekalog Jean De Florette/Manon Of the Spring In The White City I Only Want You To Love Me (Fassbinder) Investigation Of A Citizen Above Suspicion

Man, that one is shaping up to become a really intricate list. I don't remember finding it remotely this interesting last time I checked but now you have tons of new stuff in it, it seems, even Wiseman's High School, a film about the moon missions that uses Brian Eno's wonderful Apollo album, Edvward Munch, Posession, Berlin Alexanderplatz or Sansho dayu. Moving Incendies down also makes me personally look at the list from another angle Also kudos for including True Heart Susie in the later list, where does it rank for you in Griffith's ouevre?

Munch has been there for a few years lol. Incendies is still great to me; I just like some other films more. Uhh... 1. Intolerance (by far) 2. The Birth of a Nation 3. Broken Blossoms 4. True Heart Susie 5. Way Down East 6. Orphans of the Storm 7. Corner of Wheat

Great mix of movies, especially like #144. At least one movie per row would make my own Top 250.... also love seeing all the Masaki Kobayashi who I only recently discovered and still haven't seen Human Condition yet but soon!

May I ask what you loved about Picnic at Hanging Rock? I was really excited to see it but didn't get into my first viewing. It does seem like the type I'd enjoy more if I revisit it with a different mindset though. you asked the right person The mystery and the subtext. The film is an eternal rewarding labyrinth to me. There are no right answers and no wrong answers but the way Weir captures this mystery brilliantly through cutting, music and atmosphere engenders an experience that to me encourages unending speculation that is itself a rewarding journey. You know there's no literal answer but still want to conjure one. You feel like you're on the precipice of understanding but not quite there. A thrilling place to be. For me, I can't get beyond two things: how the film is more about how the disappearance affects those left behind more than the disappearance itself, and to me what reads like repressed sexual mania throughout the film. The film is incredibly sexually charged, between Michael's obsession with Miranda's nymphic image, the potential lesbianism among the schoolgirls (especially Sara), and Mrs. Appleyard's definite repressed lesbianism. The film is gently, femininely sexual. You can read the mystery as creepy, and occasionally it really is, because Weir examines it from the confused and panicked perspective of those left behind. However, read as a film about sexual repression, you can see the film as perhaps uplifting. Of being extricated from a previous existence. Don't think most people will come to that conclusion but it's what I always come back to every time I watch it, and that's credit to Weir's filmmaking because you can project any answer you want onto this thing. The ingredients are all there. I created one that makes it the most beautiful and fascinating film I've seen.
