Did this last year and thought it might be fun again. Get Santa (2014, Christopher Smith)After putting a few thrillers under his belt, director Christopher Smith went against type with this charming holiday family film. Starring Jim Broadbent as a very jolly old Saint Nick, this story has him on the lam from the fuzz after crashing his sleigh. Seeking help from Rafe Spall and his son, they’re soon on a race against the clock to save Christmas. Also starring Warwick Davis, Stephen Graham, Ewen Bremner, Joanna Scanlan and the upcoming thirteenth doctor herself Jodie Whittaker. Filled with heart, laughs and a great soundtrack, there’s enough to enjoy for both parents and kids alike. Any fans?

Never heard of it. But it has Jim Broadbent as Santa. The last time he played Santa, the film was extraordinary.

It's... fine. Not my cup of tea, but it's the sort of thing the real movie nerds enjoy. I don't really like the coming-of-age genre, and this is a perfectly average entry into it. I think my problem is that I've never understood "kids" even when I was one. (Now I don't understand adults, but that's a matter of cynicism and misanthropy, rather than simply being unable to understand.) Movies like this play on nostalgia and one's own memories of how they felt, and for me... I don't know, my childhood is simply a blank. I know it happened in some form, but I was never a child in the way these characters are. *shrug*

I've always felt kind of stuck in the middle and often have more in common with people muuuuuch older than me. You a big Boyhood fan?

Despite again feeling that the boyhood depicted was nothing like my own... yeah, I am a fan. Not in love with it, but there's much to admire. I've reaaaaally been wanting to watch Rare Exports. I'm a fan of Helander's Big Game, with President Samuel L. Jackson and some Finnish kid trying to fend off assassins in a tribute to 80's action movies. I'm baffled by the critical indifference to that film, but everyone seems to like Rare Exports.

I haven't seen this film since it first came out on DVD and can't recall much about it. I do recall my general feelings toward it: complete and utter crap. Can't remember why, but I loathed this movie.

I didn't offer anything useful to the conversation, and now I feel bad for talking -- I don't mind ripping into a movie, but I should at least remember why I hate it before opening my mouth.

Been meaning to see this ever since Mitch went nuts for it years back. Apparently there are more Christmas films for me to see than I thought! I thought I had them all down pat.

No worries, man! Sometimes there's a movie that rubs you the wrong way and you don't even have the energy to remember why.

Where's the jo--SNRRRRRKKK* I love good realistic comedy. I'm a sucker for Turteltaub's movies. 3 Ninjas is a childhood favorite that is too stupid to truly recommend to anybody, but I enjoy it. Cool Runnings deserves far more love than it has ever gotten ("I see pride! I see power! I see a badass mother that won't take no crap off of nobody!"), and I really like the National Treasure movies. He's one of my favorite fast food directors.

I've probably seen While You Were Sleeping about 100 times. I am not exaggerating. And it never gets old.
