Does it deserve to be nominated for BP Oscar? Is it overhyped at this point? or is the hype justified?
What if it ends up winning best picture?

I would not be surprised in the least if it was nominated.

Not in the slightest surprised but very, very happy nonetheless.

Wouldn't be surprised at this point, just pretty disappointed. I hate to be that guy, but I can't help but feel this movie's over-the-moon reception is largely due to the political climate. It's a very topical and "current" film, but far from revolutionary. I found myself pretty bored by its retread of horror cliches. I don't care that they were disguised with social commentary. The story wasn't there. It was boring.

I liked the movie, so happy I guess. At least it wouldn't be a Hidden Figures, The Blind Side type of nomination

It's a one "joke" movie that's premise doesn't really sustain to feature length. I mean I don't hate it, but the words I just spent on it are more than enough.

I still truly do not see what everyone else sees in this movie...
But yeah, it's getting nominated and will probably win some shit too, hell, it can even score an ensemble win with Allison fucking Williams as one of the leads.

the movie is sooooo stale. it might happen, but if it gets shut out almost completely (or scores a screenplay nod over The Post) i'll be overwhelmed with ecstasy.

I haven't seen it yet because it honestly looks pretty bad... but I'll have to get around to it at some point.

Well by no means should you rush to check it out. If I were to give away the twist to you right now, you'd probably say "shut up, that can't be right..." But it is. It really is.

Yikes, a little shocked by all of the haters on this board. Admittedly I was in the "don't get the hype" boat the first time I saw it, but a re-watch really helped me appreciate it more, and has cemented it as one of my favorites of the year. Honestly, the whole "critics just like it out of fear of disliking a 'race' movie" argument is stupid and a highly reductive take on this movie; in fact, Get Out exists in direct contrast to that type of thinking, considering it's easily the most unique and insightful movie about race to come out in years.
I for one would be overjoyed if it received a nomination, and would not at all be surprised. Sure, it has its flaws: the conflict resolution is super unimaginative and really lets down the creativity of the rest of the film. But the problems really aren't prominent enough to be detrimental to the film in a significant way. In general, it's hands-down one of the year's best, and is well-deserving of its attention and praise. Really hope it scores well in the awards season.

Anyone using that excuse for why it is doing well is a moron. Seriously. The movie made $165mil dollars and has been one of the most talked about movies this year. I mean what else can you possibly ask for in an Oscar nominated movie? I can see if the reviews were middling but it currently sits on that top ten list with the most number one's.

I'd be fine with that, it's a pretty great film and it would be a really inspired nom. I mean when was the last time the Academy nominated a racially-driven horror film for BP?

I'd be fine with it. It's a smart, savvy bit of filmmaking. I think the narrative surrounding it is a bit over-the-top, but at least such a narrative is attached to a quality movie.

I wouldn't be very surprised but a decade or two later people will be scratching their heads on it's BP nom.
