I don't mean that literally because I don't gravitate much to depression in music but I put that in there for whatever it means to you - sad or evocative of despair. I've been spending a lot of time with Joy Division's two albums which are so locked into this kind of doom vibe that they go right up to the line of being unintentionally funny in a way............but not quite and that's what makes them special, they attain a kind of beauty that's entirely their own.
For as many bands as they influenced nobody really sounds like them on those two full lengths - and those are approaching being 40 years old at this point.

Yea the 2 Joy Division albums are solid picks. The Wall can be pretty depressing. Fade to Black has got to be up there as one of my fav depressing songs.

This might make me seem like a weirdo, but I only really love depressing music. I don't have to be depressed to want to hear it. I like to hear some despair.
Well, this song is full of despair. It conjures up pictures of a girl who has hit her rock bottom. I first heard it on this powerful documentary about heroin addicts, and let's just say it was fitting:

I like to hear some despair. and they say I'm evil. I wouldn't call it evil. I just like to be emotionally wrung out by movies, music, and shows. I never thought you were that evil.

I've got another song to add. Tim Buckley's voice and lyrics touch me every single time I hear it.

The state of modern hip hop. That's depressing. E N U N C I A T E . I disagree. This year was actually an incredible year for hip hop. So many great albums were released. I know what you're saying about mumble rap, but on the bright side, that's just a fraction of it, and talented MCs like Kendrick and J. Cole are still outselling the Lil Yachtys. Now, the state of modern rock and roll depresses me. It's so dead right now compared to what I experienced growing up all the way to the early 2000s. It makes me sad.
