Good to see Saoirse Ronan there this time even though she didn't appear to say as much as some of the others.

Lawrence? you mean Lawrence olivier? Mother bombs and critics dislike it! what the hell is she doing there? It's got a 74 score on Metacritic, and Lawrence recieved career-best raves. It was just the box office that hated it.

Benning & MacDormand should've been there instead of instead of Lawrence & Chastain.

When did Jessica Chastain become insufferable? She has always been like that since the time of her Facebook.

I still have a lot to see but from what I've seen of the year I think Jennifer Lawrence has given the best female performance of the year for now. It is also her best performance to date. Her appearance at the Governor Awards and this gives me the impression that she may have an opportunity. Maybe it's distant but it exists.

When did Jessica Chastain become insufferable? Who knows, but I'm starting to feel that way too. I was watching a clip on the Graham Norton show (from a while ago) with Chastain and Diane Keaton on the couch. Keaton was talking about their Godfather reunion and praising Coppola and how great the film is. And then Chastain has to interject with one of those 'but so were you, you're so important in that film'. Like, girl, who asked?? It's not like Keaton was putting herself down and being self-deprecating, wtf, she was giving credit where credit was due. This wasn't a moment where we needed Chastain to interject with her 200 versions of 'but women in film!'. It just felt so out of place and unnecessary. But now i feel like that's all we hear when Chastain is doing press. I get it, and it's an important message but I can't take her seriously anymore bc she's exhausted her point. she honestly ruined the moment lol. edit:

They didn't release the full video? I read somewhere it only comes out on February 4th. They usually hold on to the full videos for months, I'm not sure why.

Variety holds Actors on Actors until after it's aired on TV, but an almost 3-month wait for this seems a little much.

Yes, Jesica Chastain seems to be uber serious as if "but women in film!" is always in the back of her mind. Forgive me, I'm out of the loop with these awards races these days, so can someone explain Mary J. Blige's presence there? I wasn't aware she was even in a movie, let alone getting awards buzz. Actually, what are the movies all these women are receiving buzz for? I assume Lawrence for Mother? Bring me up to speed, people!

"Allison Janney, I, Tonya" is what Mahershala Ali will read out loud when he opens that Supporting Actress envelope next February. Lawrence is there for mother!, yes. The way I see it, she's battling Winslet and Bening for the #5 slot at the Globes (Drama), and probably won't show up anywhere else (I don't think she even pops up there, honestly). Stone played Billie Jean King in Battle of the Sexes and got glowing reviews, but the film's buzz deflated after its poor box-office showing. It should do well at the Globes because Comedy is a much softer field to crack, but I think that's all she'll get too. Chastain is contending for Sorkin's directorial debut Molly's Game, which she got near-universal raves for. She has a much better shot than the previous two at an Oscar nod and is probably at #7 or so, but has a weak studio and very very tough competition working against her. Ronan is in Greta Gerwig's first directing gig Lady Bird, which sits at 94 on MC. Top 5 contender, will probably get her 3rd nomination this year. Blige is in Mudbound, a post-WWII, Mississippi-set, race-themed drama with Carey Mulligan in which she plays a grieving mother (I think). She and the film are supposedly stellar. I'm a little weary on her chances because Netflix is the distributor, but it's a thin category, so she could make it.

Out of those, I would most want to see Ladybird only because I love Saoirse Ronan's acting. Good for her being in the race yet again at her age. She is the future, I believe.

It was March, not February. Strictly speaking, though, I guess the Lawrence one wasn't 100% either. I said she wouldn't be nominated anywhere, but she did get a Razzie nod.

This year's roundtable. Kicks off with Kate Winslet bemoaning how "hard" it is living the life of a famous actress because of early call-times
