For me in a scenario like this it would be difficult to separate the artist and the person. Popping in L.A. Confidential won't be the same. Or Se7en. Or Glengarry Glen Ross.

For me in a scenario like this it would be difficult to separate the artist and the person. I don't know. Sometimes I'm able to, but sometimes I'm not. Like I can't listen to R. Kelly's or Chris Brown's music because I'm not able to separate their music from their personal lives. However, I admit that I still watch The Cosby Show reruns on TVOne and A Different World reruns which was a spin-off of The Cosby Show, but I couldn't watch 7th Heaven ever again. I don't know maybe it's because I grew up watching The Cosby Show and to an extent A Different World before everything came about Bill Cosby, and most of the shows are rewatchable although there are some clunkers. On the other hand, I never really watched 7th Heaven except either as a safe choice with family or as something to mock watch, but I wouldn't be able to mock watch it anymore. Or there's things like Gary Glitter's "Rock and Roll Part 2" which I hated even before I found out about Glitter, but now anytime I hear it used in a sporting event, it drives me even crazier. I notice that I don't hear as much now which is nice because I thought that use of that song would never die. Oh topic, with Michael Jackson's music, I didn't feel comfortable listening to it once all those allegations came out, but after he died, I felt like I could listen to it again without feeling guilty. Although "P.Y.T." still makes me cringe a bit. With Miramax's and TWC's films, I don't think I would have any trouble rewatching those except for a few like those that involved Rose McGowan or Asia Argento, for instance, but I think I could probably rewatch Shakespeare in Love or The King's Speech. I mean I haven't tried to since everything finally came out, but I don't know if Weinsteingate would necessarily be the first thing to enter my mind if I was doing a rewatch. It might pop into my head, but I don't know that it would affect my viewing any. With Kevin Spacey, I don't know. American Beauty would definitely be too difficult to sit through, but I could probably rewatch The Usual Suspects or Glengarry Glen Ross. I mean of course I would think about what's going on now, but I think I could still watch those films.

Easily. It’s not the fault of the filmmakers that their actor did some bad things, and it’s still explicitly clear that we’re meant to be watching a character and not Spacey. So long as the driving force isn’t intentionally blurring the line between art and artist, I’m perfectly willing to look past it.

I don't want to look at his slimy face for a while, but it's not like I'm never gonna watch Se7en again.

Um, my favorite film is Chinatown, one of my favorite bands wrote a lyric that goes "I can see you're 15 years old - I don't want your ID" ............Woody Allen is a personal fave director, I've seen everything he's done..........Louis C.K. is a flat out genius to me
So, I guess I can still enjoy the thespian talents of Mr. Keyser Soze .....

Yes. I mean, I've enjoyed films from Woody Allen and Roman Polanski, for starters. If I can enjoy films made by those two men, then I can enjoy stuff with Spacey in it. I know it's different considering Spacey is on screen, but my focus is on the film when I'm watching it, not the outside circumstances.

people who separate art from the artist are the weakest race
however theres no ethical consumption under capitalism so by not supporting his work you're supporting other not ethical stuff so eh
then again i dont care about acting at all thesedays so i don't think allegations like this are going to hinder an actor's performance at all, but it's not because i separate the two

You don't have to celebrate the man to appreciate his work. 1,000,000 times this. Plenty of great artists (not saying Spacey is a "great artist", to be clear ) are kind of shitty people, and only in a few cases (where I believe it greatly affects the honesty of their work) does it bother me.

ya. honestly, the only times I can't watch an actors work is if theres a link between their personality + my opinion on their quality of work. Like I'm less inclined to watch a Wahlberg film, and it doesn't help that I hate his whole persona but it's also just about me not liking him as an actor.
Lena Dunham would be another one where I just don't like her and it influences my opinion on her quality of work. Not really sure which direction the arrow flows but both factors interact to make me decide 'eh, not gonna watch so-and-so's work anymore'
But Spacey, Polanski--they're good at what they do, so it helps separate the art/artist.

Sure, overall he's part of some films that I love. But at the same time, I was always in the minority of people who were never particularly impressed by his acting.

I must admit I usually only care for the art instead of the artist personality when I watch a movie … but yeah some of Spacey's films will leave me now with a bitte after taste.. especially American Beauty … and I am not only talking about the general theme of the film but also when I think about those scenes with Wes Bentley… or even Chris Cooper… its not the same anymore.

Sure
I re-watched Se7en at the weekend and I had no problem with the whole separate the art from the artist school of thought.

The allegations against Spacey are cringe worthy, to say the least, but it's still at a level wherein I can pretty much separate the man from the artist - at this point, anyway, and I don't know if he can ever work again, I mean, the Old Vic Theatre had 20 allegations against Spacey when he was the leader there?? Geez
