Hey MA, I couldn't find a thread about FilmStruck so here it is. I know Viced is all over Struck like a sandwich, but I'm curious who else has an account? Also thought we could use this thread to recommend gems found within the catacombs of the site and/or recently added stuffs. I'll go first: the Safdie bro's Daddy Longlegs just got added and it's a great Cassavetes-esque depiction of cumbersome fatherhood, with Ronald Bronstein quite affective and hilarious in a sorta flamboyant sorta agitated New York brusque way (reminiscent of Vincent Gallo). If that's not your yam, I'd also urge Hitchcock fans to seek out Sabotage ('36), only 75min!

I've had my account since June, and I've used it to breeze through a bunch of Criterion classics that I had yet to see. My use of it has become much less frequent since the summer, but I'm still using it to explore a lot of great cinema, working my way through my watchlist that currently includes 97 titles.
Not sure how much I can recommend that others haven't seen. Though I'll definitely take the opportunity to emphasize that both Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters and A Brighter Summer Day are films that need to be watched by all, and that isn't the case.

DeepArcher Their catalog of films runs seriously deep. I have a "watchlist" and it only keeps getting longer - I think Struck adds films on a daily basis, too. I had no idea Mishima was on the site, a film I've been meaning to see for a while. Thx for the heads up - this thread is already proving itself smashingly !

I've had an account for almost a year and it's great. I've mostly just been going through watching films chronologically (currently headed into 1945), but it's a fantastic place to catch up on a lot of classics as well as seek out work you'd never even heard of before. Can't say what hidden gems I'd found off the top of my head, but I'm sure there are quite a few.
Also been marathoning Hitchcock's entire filmography and agree that Sabotage was a nice surprise. Amazing to think of how much of its plot was borrowed in Inglourious Basterds.

Can I watch this through a PS4? I wish they were still on Hulu. That's the only reason I even got Hulu ...

Can I watch this through a PS4? I wish they were still on Hulu. That's the only reason I even got Hulu ... They've been talking about making FilmStruck available for PS4, Xbox One, Samsung TV, etc. for a long time now, and it hasn't happened yet. I just hook my laptop up to my TV with an HDMI cable for now until they finally get to it. It's just kind of strange how long it's taking. They said that all of those formats would be available in the Summer and here we are getting ever closer to Winter. That's probably my one gripe with it.

So can you only watch via laptop? I hate having to hook my computer into my TV. You can't use it through a Blu-Ray, XBox, or TV?
EDIT: I signed up for a free trial. Pretty good selection. PLEASE post if you know how to watch on a TV without having to go through a laptop.

Awwww man, if only I was old enough to go senile and then I could watch it again like it's the first time That's awesome - it's been underseen for too long. Not only is Dewaere one of my fave performances of all time, he and Trintignant are one of my favorite couples too.

They've added some interesting movies recently that I've been curious about, few of these I haven't been able to find until now: The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes ('70) dir Billy Wilder Petulia ('68) with Julie Christie and George C Scott Baal ('70) dir Volker Schlondorff, starring Fassbinder The Sound Barrier ('52) dir David Lean Also, more importantly: Serie Noire is leaving on May 16th. That's 5 days, people! If you haven't seen it, you really should. And not just bc it would make pacinoyes happy.

Baal gets talked about in those early Fassbinder years when he put his troupe together - many of whom are in it - its amazing how even then in his mid-20s he was sort of a major figure on several areas and in several ways (actor, theater director, writer, he seemed to know everybody or at least everybody he wanted to know).
I'm curious to see it!

Just saw my email & came to see if the news was posted ... and I'm gonna have to ditto Viced's words. Fucking bullshit. No other streaming service has matched this in terms of the quality of its film selection. I still have 115 movies in my watchlist, for chrissakes! I can't watch all of 'em in a month! This fucking blows

I wonder if they'll go back to Hulu. That was the whole reason I got Hulu. Then they left and I just kept on paying for Hulu. I hope they go back to Hulu.

GOD DAMN IT.
FilmStruck is (was?) an absolute goldmine. Probably the greatest and most indispensable resource for movie buffs btwn the world cinema and obscure older stuff they offered and always adding stuff to keep it fresh too. This news kinda blindsided us all, right? Shit, now I gotta binge as much as I can. I'll start posting here some of the gems I've seen and still are on the site......
