Best part was the split-second of Val Kilmer going ballistic on stage.
I really am kinda tired of Malick's penchant for the wide angle shot, but you can't deny he makes 'em look better than anyone else.

It's a bit of a disappointment considering how brilliant the trailers were for Malick's other films this decade, but the footage itself looks strong. I imagine it'll go down about as well as To the Wonder and Knight of Cups did: if you liked those, you'll like this one. And since I did, I'm pretty damn stoked.

Looks a tad more interesting than the last two films, and while it had some things I liked, it also had so much of what I don't like from Malick. I'll be keeping my expectations in check.

I'll repost what I said elsewhere: "Ugh, going way too far with the fisheye lens. I guess Malick's now decided that straight edges just don't jive with what he wants to do anymore? Anyway, as someone who's admittedly not a Malick fan but was more interested in his last two films than some others and could at least appreciate that his style works well for a 2 minute trailer sample, this looks awful."

Something tells me Radegund will be the sort of Malick you take to. At least, August Diehl and Matthias Schoenaerts promise to be a great pairing (provided they don't get Brody'd).

I wouldn't be surprised if Malick wins me over with another one of his films eventually; hell, I wanted to see the IMAX version of Voyage of Time since that sounded right up my alley but my schedule kept me from being able to make a trip to the Science Center where it was playing. Radegund has an awesome premise and I love the cast with Diehl and Schoenaerts as you said as well as Bruno Ganz, Michael Nyqvist, and Martin Wuttke, so that one is definitely on my radar. I'll always give new Malicks a watch since I do have a lot of respect for his talent, vision, and influence so I hold out some hope that he'll really connect with me one day.

Admittedly, I am a bit disenchanted with Malick's latter-day style. I much prefer him when he's got more of a narrative to graft his themes onto, rather than vice versa. His last two films (and much of The Tree of Life) are tonal poems, and while those are wonderful in their own right, I ache for him to return to his earlier style. Less freewheeling wide-angle fantasia and more of a firm, stately structure is what I'd like to see.

I mean the camerawork is amazing and you can imidiatly see how unique and adventurous it is (seriously this looks amazing) but even for a Malick film I can't decipher any story or overall narrative here. Maybe that's a good thing though. I'll probably love it whatever (I mean I have to be honest and there's almost no director with a track-record as good as Malick's for me).
I don't really like the song choice though. I love the song itself but I don't think it fits the trailer.

Seriously, this looks exactly like To the Wonder and Knight of Cups. Ughhh, come back to structure already, buddy!

Hoping there will be somewhat of a narrative in this. Love the cast and it obviously looks fantastic.

It LOOKS like there's a story here, which would be a welcome change after Knight of Cups. And Lubezki's work was amazing in Tree of Life but it's getting tiring now.

Not feeling it.
I'm getting a Spring Breakers feel from this.

So many random scenes so I kinda doubt as this is getting any big story. Looking forward to see it anyway.
