I just don't get why some people online are so aggressively doing the "who cares about Avatar" thing. What's the point of that? Like how do you look at James Cameron's track record and think that's even remotely an interesting thing to post?

The_Cake_of_Roth From what I’m hearing, Horner had actually written some themes for the next movie, and those are going to be incorporated into the movie. But how much of the work is Horner and how much of it is Franglen, that’s an interesting divide. But yeah, regardless of what you thought of Horner’s work on Avatar, the lack of his voice will be sorely felt, and I still miss him. It’s to the point where if I hear the “four notes of doom” again, I may actually tear up a little.

People still talk about Terminator, Aliens, Titanic to this day and those are 25-40 years old! However, what I am saying is that no one is talking about Avatar (outside of sequel news) probably at all and THAT is particularly curious as it was a massive success less than 15 years ago. Maybe not curious, but it is interesting. As always, I'm willing to eat my words... But also maybe I'm still bitter that they decided to go with Ridley's stupid fucking Prometheus movies rather than Blomkamp's Alien movie (which I think had Cameron's blessing? might be remembering that wrong) bringing Ripley, Hicks, and the Xenomophs to Earth. Perhaps I blame James Cameron, the bravest pioneer.

I'm one of the three people that can enjoy Prometheus despite the flaws, but they made Alien: Covenant instead of that idea? Whoever it is that greenlights and cancels project just happened to be grumpy that day and wanted to see people pissed, and burn through serious cash to make a movie that was an Alien/Prometheus hybrid that pleased fans of neither franchise. What a dumb move. Wait wasn't Ridley Scott the reason it was canceled? The guy hasn't done a great film since Blade Runner. Why would anyone listen to that pompous ass? He managed to make House of Gucci, a movie where a meddling sociopath wife has her husband killed by a hitman, into one of most boring things I've seen in awhile.

Funny thing about those people is I’m 100% sure they are all going to see this anyways. I don’t know anybody who is even mildly interesting in movies who isn’t going to pay to see it.

I doubt that I'm going to see it. Unless this gets Fury Road level notices from people I trust, I have little interest. Same thing with that Top Gun movie that just released.

No sooner were those words out of Cameron's mouth did Colin Trevorrow call his agent and get himself a meeting...

Cameron himself all but confirmed it’s going to clock in at roughly three hours.
I’d be down for that. My annoyance at length aside, I’m curious when a movie feels brave enough to pass the three hour mark.

So I watched the first movie in IMAX 3D today, which was really nice, it really does play in a totally different way on the big screen. The biggest take away from it though was how much passion there seemed to be for the movie and how many people that are coming out to see it again on this re release. And seeing it in theatres it's really easy to understand the big appeal of it and why it was such a giant hit. Hard to see that the sequel, barring a complete disaster of a movie, doesn't make an absolutely ridiculous amount of money.
Oh, and there was a scene from the sequel in the credits. The content of the scene wasn't all that, but the visuals are absolutely stunning.

If that’s the presentation style they go for in Dolby, I’m not sure how I’ll feel about that. Gemini Man really killed my interest in HFR (it’s also the last time I saw a movie in 3D before Avatar’s rerelease).

I'm no fan of the HFR either, but if anyone can make it work I guess that is Cameron (and I would assume it will be better when the do it from the beginning rather than during a remaster).
