NOOOOOOOO.
His role (albeit small) in Twin Peaks was a hell of a way to go out. Awesome, underrated actor with amazing screen presence.

Wow... Glad he was able to get at least a good swan song before his time. Want more than ever to see Lucky now. R.I.P.

They don't make 'em any better. They really don't. And the Academy owes the suave motherfucker a posthumous nod.
I'm devastated, y'all.

Oh fuck. I only just watched Paris, Texas the other day, and of course Twin Peaks a bit before.
He became one of my favourite actors after having seen only a few of his performances, something I'm gonna have to change. RIP

Damn. He was in a lot of classic films. Superb in Paris Texas as well, and his Carpenter films. Great character actor. RIP!

Listen up, gang: do yourselves a favor and watch Harry Dean Stanton in Wild at Heart at some point this weekend. One of the undersung, underappreciated supporting performances in cinema, and easily my win in a powerful year.

Awful news. But if it's any consolation, he did live one long ass life. The number of great/essential American films he was a part of is just absolutely insane.... I'll give a shout out to his amazing work in Straight Time and the very underrated Dillinger. Gonna have to dedicate this weekend's movie watching to the man.

Yes, I would love it if he could get nominated for Lucky, but I haven't heard much about it since earlier this year and it comes out in a few weeks. RIP to one of the greatest character actors ever.

Harry Dean Stanton's face should be the first thing that comes up when you Google "reliable." He was about as remarkably consistent an actor as any I've ever seen, with a uniquely charismatic screen presence. There's a reason why he's so often singled out as the greatest character actor. If I were to name a couple performances I feel more people should check out, I'd recommend his one-scene wonder as Paul the Apostle in The Last Temptation of Christ (a scene that serves as the heart of a theologically complex film) and as a producer who wants to turn death into reality TV in the underseen Death Watch.

I hope that the DVD release of the series has a dedication to him at the end of the last episode.

I just watched Paris, Texas for the first time a couple weeks ago and LOVED it. Amazing actor. So cool that he was still working at his age. Also doesn't get enough credit for his fantastic work in Big Love. He will be missed.

It's absolutely devastating. He was one of the few true cinema legends left. His presence permeated everything he appeared in. Nothing he was featured in would be the same without him. As I've said before and will continue to say for years, his performance in Paris, Texas is one of the finest accomplishments in the entire medium of cinema. He did more with his eyes in that film than most actors do with their whole bodies throughout an entire career. He's remarkable and irreplaceable, leaving a void that will never be filled. Rest in Peace.
