Turd Wars strikes again.
Pro tip: Star Wars has always been bad. It was the work of Marcia Lucas who salvaged a genuinely terrible and tedious movie.

That bad???? I guess it depends. I liked TLJ, so I don't think I'll like this from the sound of it. Not even gonna read the early spoilers, because I like to go into these movies without knowing anything, but if the film contradicts anything significant about The Last Jedi (a movie I genuine think is great), then I might be a bit pissed.

Just know that as this weekend comes, and people are wanting to come into this fresh...
Please remember: Spoiler tags are your friends. And if anyone blissfully, willfully spreads spoilers without tags or warning (I have at least one user on ignore who did that during The Last Jedi), do not give those people attention. Don’t quote them, don’t spread them, and if possible, have admins take action. I know I sound petty, but we should really have some decorum.
Anyway, I’m likely to completely detach myself from the internet over the next couple days, so I’ll see how I react when I finally see the film.

How badly they fucked up these new Star Wars movies will never cease to amaze me. They went in with a practically unlimited budget, could've hired 1,000 writers to brainstorm the most interesting (or most fun, anyway - Star Wars has never really been that interesting) ways of taking the story, had an absurdly massive universe of material to explore and work with, and what do they put out? Braindead pandering, soulless, unoriginal, awfully written messes. At least some of the special effects are cool... Disney is a joke.

Rian Johnson remains rightfully unbothered.

Jeremy is a big Star Wars fan and he gave it "T minus 1 day" It's fucking TFA all over again. "Scavenger hunt video game plot?" Check. "Are they really friends?" Check. "People popping in to exposit?" Check. "Shameless pandering?" Check. "God mode Rey?" Check. I reeeeally didn't like TLJ, but it had some interesting ideas that Johnson 100% fucked up executing. TFA had nothing at all. And everything Jahns said is the same complaints I've had about this franchise since the Mouse got his grubby claws on it. Not counting Rogue One, which is still pretty good.

The contrast of music with the percentage is one of the funniest things I’ve seen in awhile.

If you told me a Will Smith pigeon movie would get better reviews than Star Wars... I’m not sure I’d have believed you.

Can see it already: TLJ haters will blame Johnson for this because of what he forced JJ to "fix."

If you'll excuse me, I'm going to channel my inner Dash Rendar and play some Shadows of the Empire.

I have major issues with TLJ, but they have nothing to do with Johnson supposedly "ruining" whatever TFA had set up. I'm saying there are/will be stupid people exclusively blaming Johnson for how messy TRoS turned out instead of holding everyone accountable for not actually having a solid plan going into this new trilogy.

They shouldn't have made these movies so fast. Sticking with the old 3 year production cycle of the other trilogies would've given them ample time between installments to refine everything and keep audiences wanting more. Disney tried to make these like Marvel but it never could've been because one franchise is built entirely around galactic stakes and the other one is built entirely on an illusion of change.

yikes People saying that TLJ got great reviews because of Disney paying off critics really have no excuse now.
Also, those who are saying Star Wars has never been good, the Knights of the Old Republic duology is genuinely fucking great you heathens.

Well, this piss poor reception is probably the optimum result for Kevin Feige. If the Stars Wars film he's producing hits even a minimum bar of satisfying both fans and critics, he'll probably be given the keys to Hollywood.

They pushed a lot of things aside... like character development, logic, plot, and an already established universe...

They pushed a lot of things aside... like character development, logic, plot, and an already established universe... Yeah not that Boyega’s not right about Disney and LFL, but sadly I just don’t think they planned anything out which caused most of the problems. It just added to it that no one gave a thought to how they just couldn’t change Sam, who was originally a white character in the concept material to Finn who Boyega and call it a day and not give a thought to how Sam/Finn’s race changing would impact the story. Then JJ did another bait and switch thing with the marketing by making it seem like Finn was going to be the lead or co-lead, and even though he had more screentime in TFA than the other three, he still got reduced down to a janitor that gives exposition to the Resistance and comic relief. I think Finn could have been a really powerful character even if he wasn’t Force Sensitive. I was really looking forward to a Stormtrooper Rebellion with Finn leading the way, and Stormtroopers actually rebelling against their programming and showing that the endless cycles of war would finally stop, but this trilogy didn’t seem like it could handle trying to balance so many characters and do them all justice. I thought it could because I liked the first two even though both movies have some problems, but I don’t even know what TROS was. Almost everything from TLJ gets retconned, Rose is nonexistent, Finn just runs around screaming “Rey” all the time, he and Poe are given girlfriends because god forbid Disney actually go there with main characters, only Force Sensitive Stormtroopers are apparently worth saving, one of the most iconic villains in pop culture is wasted, etc.

Feels like they didn't have any idea what to do with him, and just decided to throw his character to the wolves, in the hopes that it would all out work again. That, and Rose basically being a non entity in the film felt like J.J.'s admitting defeat to the "online fanboys" who scream about "too much diversity" in a Star Wars movie, which well doesn't look great.
