Laughable trailer . I'm sorry but the new cast flat out sucks here.

Tit for tat, I guess. TLJ took a shit all over TFA. Exactly, and it was great! Which is why rehiring Abrams felt like a bad idea from the start to me. They're just gonna retcon a movie most people didn't like. Okay... Was it really "most" though? TLJ was divisive sure but it was review-bombed to fuck on RT by a minority of very passionate and very angry fanboys (plus alt-right trolls from 4chan) but it has a 7+ rating on IMDB with twice the ratings and an A on CinemaScore. It was the kind of movie that you either loved or hated (and only the latter if you're one of those boring dynastical fans who treats the originals like sacred canon that can never be re-interpreted or confronted), but the majority of viewers seemed to like it. The outrage was hugely blown out of proportion by a vocal minority.

2017: Let the Past Die
2019: Member Palpatine???
Jesus Christ, this is going to be the most divisive trilogy ever. Not just divisive over whether or not it’s good but also divisive over which movies in it or good. We already have TFA fans and TLJ fans, plus the people who like both and people who dislike both. Now with this film seemingly set to be much more fan service heavy than The Last Jedi...well the reactions will be interesting.

The outrage was hugely blown out of proportion by a vocal minority. Whoa, whoa there sport. I didn't quite "hate" the movie, but I thought that the film's ambitions of re-interpreting and confronting the original were fantastic. It's the execution that blew. The horrible use of bathos, the narrative that never links Rey's A-plot with Finn and Poe's B-plot (don't get me started on how Finn's plot doesn't even link with Poe's), Snope and Kylo's relationship is completely shat on for a twist, and then the movie backtracks HARD throughout the whole finale and in the end, it has said nothing at all because it has been so damn wishy washy about its themes. The Kylo-Rey stuff was superb, but the movie needed DRASTIC rewrites to actually be good.

I liked TFA although it felt quite like rewatching A new hope.
And I liked TLJ, not so much for its plot but mainly because of Luke.
Really, I don't know what to think about this. Weird title (don't like it) and a teaser that gives away nothing but some footage. Is Abrams "deleting" TLJ? Will this be a retrospective type movie?
It's bringing back Lando and the emperor and I can't think how these are going to help the plot of the movie or even the saga.

Lando, Palpatine, Skywalker in the title? this is kind of a U turn after 'kill the past' Last Jedi. Well, TLJ couldn't stick with actually killing the past anyway. It wanted to do that a little bit, but it copied from ESB and spent its whole finale undermining everything that had happened earlier in the movie (from a thematic standpoint). Anyway, onto this teaser.... which looks like a parody. It says so little (which I'm fine with), but does it in such a cookie-cutter, formulaic way. Which is precisely what I've always expected from J.J. Abrams and Disney. I hated TFA and didn't like TLJ, and I'm honestly not sure if I'll watch this crap at all. Why would I want to subject myself to more of this. Yeah TLJ wasn't a perfect film but i liked the 'Kill the past' idea very much and now this happens. 'Rise of Skywalker'? fuck this Skywalker shit already.

Watched the teaser again and sorry, some of the criticism is laughable. After the first 30 second (which were awesome) it was just a bunch of quick cuts that give zero information about character or plot.

Side note: I really welcome how closely they hold their secrets to the chest. Coming off Pet Sematary’s spoil-everything debacle, it kinda puts things in perspective.

Well, not enough substantive here to really comment, but the title has me worried they're going to retcon Last Jedi and have her be related to the Skywalkers. That's a terrible idea because-
A. Making Rey related to Luke et al was just super lame from the get-go.
B. I am one of the few who liked Last Jedi (the other nu Star Wars stuff not so much) and one of the best moments is the scene where Kylo tells her her family is never coming back for her. It's great because the audience new he was 100% right and it set her up to forge her own path and not be stuck in the past.

You don’t think they’d dare try to make reincarnation something the Force can do? I don’t think they’re going to pull that, though, or retcon her lineage. If anything, it may just be a moniker for the next generation of Jedi after his death.

Introducing reincarnation to Star Wars could be interesting, although I don't trust JJ to handle something like that particularly intelligently. Yeah, I would guess it's just a metaphor for his spirit living on or whatever. But I thought TFA seemed to be strongly implying she was either Han or Luke's kid, and then Rian Johnson came along and completely ignored what TFA seemed to be setting up and did his own thing with it, which I give him a lot of credit for doing. Anyway, JJ/Disney may be using this as a reset since Last Jedi was so badly received amongst fans, so they could reintroduce plot threads from TFA that were ignored or cut in Last Jedi.

It sure is special. I don't believe it, but if true... wow.

The shameless baiting in this trailer is insane. I’ll only eat my words if that last bit with Rey is anything more than a dream sequence (or something similarly non-literal).
