Amy for acting, Jessica for looks.
They're both gorgeous and talented either way.

Acting......... Because of the amount of work Adams has done (she has 6 more years on Chastain), it makes it seem that it's not close. I nominate Adams I think 6 times, Chastain only twice and I wouldn't really say her 2 best are such supreme peaks that Adams hasn't bested - I would say nothing Chastain has done has become a longtime board favorite like Adams with Junebug. Though, I'm high in anticipation over Chastain in Molly's Game, more anticipating that than Adams with Sharp Objects - even though both are among my most anticipated productions.
Looks...... This could really go either way, but Chastain looks like the type that's at least.... courtable. Adams looks like she won't take it as well. That's the only way I can distinguish between two stunning women. Adams can certainly look amazingly hot sometimes. Both look good with make-up, both have aged tremendously well and both look better aged 40-43 than 30-33. Based on anticipation for Molly's Game and how good she looks there, Chastain wins very very slightly.
Definitely two of the most interesting working today no doubt.

I'd take Adams' performance in 'Junebug' over Chastain's entire career. But then again i'd just as comfortably take it over Adams' entire career too. Hmm....

Both are excellent, both are gorgeous, but Chastain for both. Impresses me more often, takes on (and generally succeeds in) a wider variety of roles and is less reluctant to push herself and let loose. I'll watch anything either of them are involved with, though.

Chastain takes this one quite handily. Adams can be very good when she wants to be (Arrival and The Master are both, er, masterful performances that would rival anything Chastain has put out), but she also has some pretty awful nadirs (American Hustle is one of the worst turns ever to be nominated, and Nocturnal Animals is an embarrassment; how she could do that on the heels of Arrival puts her in the conversation for one of the most wildly inconsistent actresses working). Chastain's 2011 output itself is enough to put her favorably against Adams, but then you add Zero Dark Thirty and Crimson Peak to the mix and that puts her ahead.
With that said, I do think Chastain's in a bit of a rut of late. I didn't care much for A Most Violent Year, Miss Sloane or The Zookeeper's Wife (even though I blame the material more than her), so I hope Molly's Game puts her back on track.

They're almost tied for looks. I feel like Adams is just naturally, consistently attractive to me while as Chastain...I can go both ways, where sometimes I find her gorgeous and other times I can't unseen the Redmayne comparison.
Talent-wise. Damn, early on, Chastain-- no fucking contest. She was hitting it out of the park at the start and I looooooved her. Now, I'm starting to think The Help was an anomaly and she's not as talented as I once believed. I like that she keeps her filmography interesting and she's certainly not untalented, but I haven't really *adored* her in anything since The Help, and my initial love for her in movies like Lawless, Take Shelter, Tree of Life has severely waned. I blame ZD30, ill Never get the praise for that and it's been the point where I switched off her.
On Adams: honestly, I never took her that seriously until I stopped taking Chastain seriously lol, but I love her consistency and her picks, and I've never disliked her in a role. She's been doing better and better in the last few years, and I nominate her a hell of a lot more than Chastain. I used to think Chastain was the one who possessed the raw, inherent acting talent but meh, she hasn't really phased me in so long, while as Adams has been constantly challenging herself and outputting the best from Junebug to Enchanted to Arrival. She's slowly becoming one of my favs, which is unexpected.

I've thought AA was one of the most attractive women on the planet for the past 10 years. Chastain was incredible in Tree of Life, which is the first thing I saw/noticed her in, but since then I've found her just solid, whereas Amy Adams is one of the best few actresses in the world for me.

But boy is Chastain shaping into a great actress. She is amazing in The Tree of Life and Interstellar. Spectacular.

2 years later.
After rewatching Junebug, Adams absolutely destroys Chastain. I don't even like Chastain anymore, hasn't done anything relevant since 2014, and she's a total noobie. Amy wins easily. Her little Junebug stomach > Chastain's entire filmography.
People are just fond of that 2011-2013 period because that's when the majority of these users got into films. But it's 2019, Adams has been better since '13 - though I admit Chastain was better in those 3 years in particular.

Adams for both. I like Chastain well enough as an actress, as she was very good in totally different roles in The Help and Zero Dark Thirty. But Adams might be the most consistent great actress over the last 15 years. I don't think I've seen a bad performance of her in that span and she's probably the actress I nominate the most often beginning since 2005 (I guess 6 times).
As for looks: Adams isn't in the first row of beauties in my eyes, but still looks pretty good and seems like a charming person as well.
