Anyone else excited for this? I think it looks great. I'm pumped that it's getting great reviews since I'm a huge fan of Jimmy Tatro (best Youtuber by far).

I just watched the first 4 episodes of this last night. It is absolutely fantastic. I'm going to finish it later today and if the second half is as good as the first then I wouldn't be able to describe it as anything less than a triumph.
It's so funny, sometimes subtly and other times cheaply (in the best possible way); but it is consistently funny and that's the main thing for me. The slow build writing and dead straight performances are really great, especially from Griffin Gluck, Karly Rothenberg and Ryan O'Flanagan; but the bell of the ball is without a doubt Jimmy Tatro. That guy is excellent.
Also, it's quite well done to the extent that it parodies the crime investigation documentary genre, without denigrating it...so far at least.

So I finished this last night, and what a great show this was. I'm still fairly surprised that a true crime satire, with such a cheap and childish premise could end up being so thoroughly engrossing. Halfway through the final episode, when it seemed like the vandalism would never truly be solved, I was really pissed off...I needed to know who did the dicks!
A show like this shouldn't have worked as well as it did. It should have got boring after a few episodes or its silly premise should not have been enough to hold it together even for 8 thirty odd minute long episodes, but it never fell away for me. It was held together by smart writing, that continually added more and more intrigue to the plot or conspiracy; so the show always felt tight, despite the ever expanding cast of characters.
As I mentioned in my previous post, the cast were uniformly brilliant. Jimmy Tatro was the MVP of the show for sure, but Ryan O'Flanagan almost stole the show from right under him, and in the latter episodes Sean Carrigan and Genevieve Hannelius were very impressive too.
I highly recommend this to anyone who hasn't watched it. It is a real gem in the TV landscape of 2017, and even if you don't like it, it's about 4.5 hours out of your life. That's like only one Terrence Malick film, or at least what one Terrence Malick film feels like.

I'm 2 episodes in and completely love it so far - wildly juvenile, appropriately dirty, it's laugh out loud funny and a dead on crime parody that you can appreciate the knowing wink at the same time.
Little bitch!!

The writing here was great and actually pretty damn smart. The show does an amazing job at sucking you in and making you want to watch the next episode again and again. I'm hoping Jimmy Tatro gets bigger roles after this because he's one talented motherfucker.

Halfway through it. It's a ton of a fun, managing to be a genuinely hilarious and wry spoof of true-crime docs, while at the same time forging its own engrossing mystery. Great characters and performances too, you can really feel the effort that went into creating a believable high school environment.

Just finished it... pretty great overall. Laughed out loud multiple times throughout and was strangely engrossed in the whole situation. Kraz had to be my favorite character. Him storming away when Rafferty wins teacher of the year almost killed me. And when they interview him in his garage and you already know he got fired.... I think episode 5 was the highlight, though all of them were pretty much great. And I agree with pessimus about them creating a very believable high school environment... Alex Trimboli especially reminds me of a few people I used to know. But yeah... really enjoyed it overall. I just read there might possibly be a season 2 (I guess Netflix will renew anything that's successful, even if it seems like a one season max show a la 13 Reasons Why) and I look forward to what the hell they'll do with it if it happens. If not, this is definitely something I'll revisit in the future.

If you take him out of the show it loses a notable percentage of its laughs. I don't really know what to think about a second season. On the one hand this was such a quality piece that I'd have confidence they could come up with something good again, but on the other hand I feel like this should be one of those great one season wonders that bows out gracefully.

Yeah, it's pretty hilarious. I hope whatever they have for the 2nd season can tie up loose ends, though.

Halfway thru!
Amazed by its precise likeness to true crime docs; remarkably well-tuned mystery and clever comment/use of social media. And it's hilarious.

Biggest surprised of the year? I only decided to check-it out because I heard good things about it here but didn't expect it to be my thing and indeed, the premiere didn't appeal to me much. Didn't like the juvenile humor, it seemed spread awfully thin and no way did I think it could maintain a whole season. But I kept going and kept going and couldn't stop. Binged it all in one day and was so engrossed. It became so damn good, extremely well written and plotted and way more satisfying than I ever thought this could be. Turned out Netflix did have a good, gripping teen mystery this year, only it wasn't 13 Reasons Why (or Riverdale), it was American Vandal.

Not only was it funny and well written, but it also turned into a very clever commentary on the justice system.

Finished! F'n brilliant.
Works quite well on a few levels:
A comedy/satire - remarkably pointed meta-satire on the true crime doc A straight up whodunnit - I was fully hooked throughout A dissection of high school hypocrisy - social politics, media, gossip, image And most relatably - the plight of the filmmaker, the craft, the compromises, the consequences...

Looks potentially fantastic again. I'm genuinely more excited for this, than any film coming up in the next four months.
American Vandal, It's Always Sunny, The Deuce, American Horror Story, Maniac and others...September is gonna be a TV month.

Just watched episode one of season two. A strong start and an intriguing story. It isn't as immediately funny as season one, but I was chuckling now and then. Promising stuff and I'm looking forward to watching more later.

So I've blasted through this as it had to be done. It was really, really great again. OK, so on terms of comedy it was a big step down, although it did have a lot of subtly excellent laughs and jokes.
I think were this one surpassed season one was in its core story, which was more fascinating, intriguing and complex than 'who did the dicks'. The poopy premise may have been even more childish, but this season was far more dramatic, emotionally resonant and at times genuinely moving than the first.
It was pointedly critiquing something worthy of critique, both within the confines of the genre it satarises and out there in the wider world of social media, which despite its uses, can never be critiqued enough.
I worried about a follow up to what seemed like such an ideal one off, but I needn't have. I won't say this surpassed season one, but it probably equalled it.

Just finished season 2... great stuff but not quite on the level of season 1. But it's close... if season 1 is a 9/10 than 2 is probably an 8.5 (sorry for the mslovak-ness of that sentence). I was kind of meh on episode 3 (don't even remember why) but it picked up from there and the final 2 episodes were fantastic. A great ending that was super unexpected (for me at least) but didn't feel out of the blue at all. Agree with Johnny that all the more subtle humor this season was great. Lines that are off camera or easy to miss and almost throwaways got the biggest laughs from me. I don't think any of the new characters were on Dylan Maxwell's level though... but I did grow to love Kevin McClain after a few episodes and DeMarcus was pretty good. There wasn't nearly enough Paul Schnorrenberg though... everything that dude said was hilarious. Lots of opportunity for a third season... Peter and Sam going off to college (film school) and finding an even larger scale crime to investigate. But did Kevin really just boot Myles out of the band in the end though? That's some cold shit...

There wasn't nearly enough Paul Schnorrenberg though... everything that dude said was hilarious. I think this was the major, minor problem with this Season, it needed one 'ha ha funny' character like Dylan Maxwell, or even a strong funny supporting character like a Mr. Kraz.
DeMarcus was funny at times, and I genuinely liked Kevin McClain too, delusional tryhard or not, but yeah it needed a source of more regular laughs. Paul Schnorrenberg actually could have been the one to give them too, but he was underused. The male cop who did the interview with Kevin was pretty funny too, but he and the female cop sort of dropped of the face of the earth after the first few episodes.

I loved season 2. I think the characters this season were a step up from the last, and the jokes were pretty great even if they were sometimes gross. I do wish they tied some things up from season 1, like if they ever got confirmation on the dick drawer, or what became of Dylan following the aftermath of the last season. I’m thinking a third season will take Peter and Sam to a college campus.

Considering the love in we had here for Season 1, I thought this thread would be a beehive of activity once the show hit again.
I agree with you overall that in general the characters where a step up, but as I said above, I just think they needed one truly excellent character and that was missing. Kevin McClain was great, and I liked and felt very sorry for him, but he was no Dylan in terms of being a truly memorable character.
I rewatched Season 1, after finishing 2 and I'm kind of with you in relation to the open(ish) end on who did it. On first watch I thought that the person they finally settled on being the most likely suspect was absolutely guilty, but in retrospect....maybe not. That's the cleverness of a show I guess. It was nice to have a resolution this time.

S2 is great....though not as fresh as S1 and Peter & Sam aren't really given much to do.
Another great mystery with clever deflections that illuminate the whole. It's crazy to fathom how well thought out and performed this show is, how perceptive too, considering each season's "juvenile" aspects - their inciting incidents. Tony Yacenda the co-creator, directed all 16 eps now and deserves a load of credit - just really smart in how they segue satire, of the form and its subjects, into something deeper and felt, never losing track of the core mystery either. For S2, Melvin Gregg as DeMarcus is MVP - very funny and later on becomes the heart of the season.
Would've been funny if they called this season American Vandal #2 (get it....?) also agree with Viced that S3 should be college-set, a lot of opportunity there!

I'm only 2 episodes into season 2 but I love it so far - so many absurdly funny lines tossed out randomly - and its very dryly done so you kind of don't get it right away (or at least I don't) but then they add up.
Just in episode 2 alone for example "he didn't know how the poop got into the Vonnegut pinata" or "He and Tanner started that band and to kick him out and replace him ........with a 10 year old" for some reason crack me up .....and don't get me started on that awesome Fruit Ninja stuff.
