Where has this show been all my life? I just binged the entire show in the past two weeks. Highly enjoyed the first two seasons, but seasons 3 to 5 are absolute miracles! I especially loved the last season. The last six months of my life have revolved around recovering from a very painful break-up, so the ending to "The Dog Days Are Over" literally had me weeping. And "Free Churro" is unquestionably the best thing I've seen on TV since Part 8 of the new Twin Peaks. I kept hearing incredible praise of this show for years, and now I know why. It's so weird to think that the show begins with a fun, satirical tone similar to The Simpsons or Futurama, and then organically evolves to become the most emotionally powerful and poignant series on television. It's just amazing. I really enjoy Rick and Morty, which is often compared to BoJack, but my god does this show kick the shit out of that one. Absolutely amazing.
Also, in my opinion the writer Kate Purdy is the hidden weapon on the show. She's written five episodes, and all five are among my top ten favorites. She won a WGA award for "Time's Arrow" and it couldn't be more deserved. Obviously Bob-Waksberg and the whole writing team are doing phenomenal work (and of course every script gets edited by the whole team), but every time I saw Kate Purdy as the credited writer I expected greatness and was never letdown. She is a phenomenal, phenomenal writer. The two she wrote in season 4 are just mind-boggling.

Couldn't agree more with every word in this post. Welcome to the BoJack fan club! Always love having new members. It's strange to me that this show isn't more popular on this board, especially considering the entire main arc of the third season literally satirizes the entire process that this board (or at least, its parent board) is dedicated to talking about.

I feel like a moron for not getting into it years ago, but on the other hand at least it's all so fresh now. Can't wait for a rewatch. I'm sure there are hundreds of little jokes that I missed on the first viewing. What are your top ten episodes? Right now I think I'd say:
1. Free Churro 2. Time's Arrow 3. The Dog Days are Over 4. The Old Sugarman Place 5. That's Too Much, Man! 6. Escape from LA 7. Downer Ending 8. Thoughts and Prayers 9. The Light Bulb Scene 10. The Stopped Show

The Stopped Show Oh yeah, I can guarantee there tons of little jokes that you probably missed The beauty of this show is that 50% of its humor lies in the background. Top ten episodes is soo difficult, especially since I love every single one once you get past its early rough patch (basically just the first half of the first season). But today, I'd say something along the lines of: 1. "Free Churro" 2. "Fish Out of Water" 3. "The Old Sugarman Place" 4. "Escape from L.A." 5. "Ruthie" 6. "Time's Arrow" 7. "The Showstopper" 8. "Stupid Piece of Shit" 9. "INT. SUB" 10. "What Time is it Right Now" Closest honorable mentions after that would be "The Telescope," the stretch of last four episodes of season three, and, like, half the episodes from season five, especially "The Dog Days are Over" and "The Stopped Show." Again, this is nearly impossible to do...

There are a ton of shows I would watch if I weren't an adult with a tedious job and routine. Breaks my fucking heart I can't consume media as much as I used to. But life, ya know? It's a pain in the ass.
This is one of those shows I'm sorry I'm missing. Another one that ended up in my ever-growing "get to it eventually" pile. Hopefully I'll watch it someday.

Watched all 5 seasons in the last 3 weeks or so, absolutely love it. Both one of the funniest and saddest shows I've seen, with uniformly excellent voice work (Will Arnett is better than I ever knew he could be, and he knew he was good!) and intelligent social commentary that's sharp, biting and never feels pandering. Now just gutted I have to wait for whenever the 6th season comes.
Seasons ranked: 1) S4 - 10 2) S3 - 9.5 3) S5 - 9.5 4) S1 - 9 5) S2 - 8.5

This show desperately needs a bigger fanbase on this forum, so come join us on the S6 hype train! In the meantime, any favorite episodes/characters/moments/guest stars/whatever to share?

This show desperately needs a bigger fanbase on this forum, so come join us on the S6 hype train! In the meantime, any favorite episodes/characters/moments/guest stars/whatever to share? I'll throw out a rough top 5 eps: Eps (those penultimates, man): 1) "Fish Out of Water" (3x04) 2) "Time's Arrow" (4x11) 3) "Free Churro" (5x06) 4) "That's Too Much, Man!" (3x11) 5) "Downer Ending" (1x11) Fave characters: Bojack Princess Carolyn Mr. Peanutbutter + so many side characters who I love every time they're on screen I often struggle with Diane, who's a fantastic character voiced brilliantly by Brie, but one that's often very hard to like - even though I frequently agree with her. Todd can get tiresome for me sometimes, but his antics are still always a riot and I love his arc as the seasons go on. As for guest stars, Character Actress Margo Martindale is a legend, and I also loved Jessica Biel's very game appearances. As with any newly binged and loved show, I'm gonna miss the shit out of this until it's back.

So, yeah. Season 6A is very final season-y, and even fan service-y, and it's nothing short of incredible. They came out swinging with their best premiere ever -- obviously the episodes that focus solely on Bojack are almost always special, and that one was certainly no different; a heartbreaking walk through Bojack's past and the history of his alcoholism which is beautifully complemented with his present day acceptance of the steps he needs to take to get better. It's a triumphant episode really and one of the best in the series. The next stretch of three episodes are each just as unique, more or less -- from the gorgeous animation and stress-inducing rhythms of ep. 2 "The New Client" to the gloriously high energy choreography and non-stop hilarity of ep. 4 "Surprise!", the creators are really operating at peak performance and I couldn't have been happier with it. The next few episodes do start to bleed together a bit, but they're no less great in the humor, commentary, and characterization they provide. The social satire has always been on-point in this show, and the way they take on issues of labor and the cruel treatment of workers by corporations in eps. 3 and 6 especially is just incredible, hilarious and way too real all at the same time.
Perhaps the most striking thing about this stretch of episodes though is how the outstanding ep. 7 "The Face of Depression" is perhaps the most cathartic and satisfying the show has ever been ... I mean I was overwhelmed by the touching moments, one in particular that gives the most unexpected & glorious payoff to a beloved six-seasons-running running gag, and it just brings such a strong sense of catharsis that it's the type of episode that you'd expect most seasons to end on. It is deceptive in its sense of finality and then we are treated to that big eighth episode which is one of the boldest in the show's history -- cleverly titled "A Quick One, While He's Away" as we jump from one side character to the next as not only Bojack but all five of the main cast remain absent from the entire thing. It's a testament to how great this show is and in particular to how amazing its full ensemble of characters are that they can still produce an episode this good by focusing only on characters outside of the main cast, but they indeed pulled it off and it's an incredible piece of television aaaand ... yeah that cliffhanger ... okay sure that ending might be a bit far-fetched, but it's really the idea that it represents that matter and that idea is strikingly powerful and oh so heartbreaking and also exactly what we should be expecting. Just when we thought we're headed towards a happy conclusion, the rug is pulled out from under us and we know it's far from over ... it almost seems like too much to be wrapped up in eight episodes now ... and it's hard to imagine how this could still end on a positive note. But whatever it ends on, I just know that I'm dying to see it.
I have many more thoughts on this (half-)season of course, but that should cover the gist of it. Never failing to be the best show on television year after year, Bojack returns not just in top form but perhaps better than ever. Obviously it still feels a little awkward in comparison to past stuff as it's very much half of a season and not a complete season in its own right by any means, but as far as I'm concerned that's not a flaw at all. It's a brilliant stretch of episodes. I'm gonna miss this show so damn much.

S6E2 is one of the funniest episodes of the show (that's saying a lot), as well incredibly empathetic, smart and featuring a classic Bojack pull-on-the-heartstrings to cap it off. God, I love this show.

I'm gonna try not to watch all episodes at a very short time, I want this series to last as long as possible.
