It seems kinda dumb to waste such a shoe-in horse for Best Actor, at least for a nod.

Man, even hours later, this really does grind my gears. The film's subject matter was always going to be a hard sell, but they really could've done something with it and Phoenix and Ramsay could've scored with critics' prizes enough to make a dent. When you're the Cannes Best Actor winner with a known pedigree like Joaquin, regardless of whether or not he'll campaign for himself, it's still a foot in the door. But Amazon's got a lot of friendlier fare on their plate; I just wish it hadn't been at the expense of my second-most anticipated film of the year.

Was just about to post this.
I preferred the international trailer but I still dig this. Easily my most anticipated of next year at the moment.

I was so looking forward to a Joaquin Best Actor push this season, and am still bitter that we were deprived of that. And that I have to wait an additional half-year or so for the film itself, of course.

I love this fucking movie. I'd suggest that it's better to avoid watching this trailer because it's better to go into it cold.

I just find it to be hilarious that Amazon dumped this movie for 2018 in favor for an awards-campaign for Wonderstruck and Wonder Wheel and both films flopped hard - whilst this one won two prizes at Cannes and would've been a critics' darling. I just don't know what was going on inside the minds of those executives.

Well, to be fair, this sort of material isn't exactly up the Academy's alley . . . but Ramsay and Phoenix could've both gotten some traction. But yeah, Amazon definitely got cocky after Manchester last year and thought they'd have a better shot with the Allen and the Haynes. Which is probably true on paper, but then . . . yeah.

So that's Greenwoods score, I take it? Dude's coming for back-to-back Oscars! From your mouth to God's ears, but I'm scared Desplat wins his second just because it feels weird for Del Toro to win Best Director without a couple of techs to back him up.

From your mouth to God's ears, but I'm scared Desplat wins his second just because it feels weird for Del Toro to win Best Director without a couple of techs to back him up. Do you feel the film still has a slight chance at any noms at all?. You Were Never Really Here? Long answer: it's an extremely early release in 2018 and I feel a lot of its Cannes buzz will have died down by then, and there is another eight months it would have to sustain its buzz stateside, where the critics would absolutely have to keep it alive and Amazon, having just suffered through the massive clusterfuck of their 2017 slate, would have to step their game back up and manage to wrangle Lynne Ramsay and Joaquin Phoenix (a notorious anti-campaigner) into promoting the film, which is an ultra-violent revenge film on the level of Drive and Taxi Driver. Short answer: Doubt it.
