Jerry Lewis, Nonpareil Genius of Comedy, Dies at 91By all accounts he certainly had his flaws, but he did so much good for the MDA. Plus, as much as the French get teased for him being a legend there, he really was a legendary comedian. While it's always sad to read about a legend passing, he lived to a really good age, and he died at home with his family around him. There's certainly worse ways one can go. Hopefully his family and friends find peace and solace in this time.

Man is unhappy because he doesn't know he's happy. It's only that.

Was never a fan of his work myself, but you can't deny the man's influence and legendary status.

This is so eerie coming two weeks after I listened to the projection booth's podcast of The Bellboy, wow.
I'm a fan of his first four films as a director (The Bellboy, The Ladies Man, The Errand Boy & The Nutty Professor), as well some of his movies with Martin, and even with all of the poor comedies he did later, he gave some terrific later day performances in films like The King of Comedy. He may have been a bit annoying to some, but he was a great physical comedian. RIP!

RIP to a comedy legend. It feels like we're losing the last of a certain generation of stars. He didn't seem like the easiest person in life, but the French were right about him being a giant talent! BTW I will be rewatching a childhood favorite of mine, the rarely-mentioned film the Family Jewels (where he plays a bunch of different characters who are the uncles a little girl has to choose from to be her guardian) in his honor very soon.

Sad loss. Understandably his films aren't everyone's cup of tea. But nobody quite melds hyper surrealism and humour the way he does in his best films. That pristine colour and sound quality of the late 50s-early 60s, combined with the elevator music and Edith Head costumes, work like a charm to elevate his work, even the lesser ones. And then are the surprising heartfelt moments that pepper his films, like the puppet scene in The Errand Boy and the school dance flashback in The Patsy. RIP.

Martin Scorsese, Robert De Niro offer tributes to Jerry Lewis“Jerry Lewis was a master. He was a giant. He was an innovator. He was a great entertainer. He was a great artist. And he was a remarkable man. I had the honor of working with him, and it was an experience I’ll always treasure. He was, truly, one of our greats,” Scorsese said in a statement. Added De Niro in a statement, “Jerry was a pioneer in comedy and film. And he was a friend. I was fortunate to have seen him a few times over the past couple of years. Even at 91, he didn’t miss a beat… or a punchline. You’ll be missed.”On Twitter, Bernhard added, “It was one of the great experiences of my career he was tough but one of a kind.”ew.com/movies/2017/08/20/jerry-lewis-dead-king-of-comedy/

I bet she drove him crazy during the making of King of Comedy. Especially because he didn't seem to think much of women being funny.
