Trump's statement on the Charlottesville violence

But seriously, this is just glorious for a man who practically built his entire campaign, his entire battle-cry out of spewing, encouraging, and fanning the flames of negativity, to suddenly try to act solemn and dignified in the face of what he brewed, and the confidence he gave to those people. He doesn't get to do this after slamming the multi-racial cast of a broadway musical with more force than the KKK.

I'd recommend for people to not read the comments on YouTube. They're pretty fucking disgusting. Can't even count the number of comments that said the people that got ran over 'deserved it'.

The idea is that Lee fought for an evil cause, and thus all monuments to the man should be torn down, and anything complimentary towards him needs to be removed from all public consciousness. He fought for an evil cause; ergo, he was an evil man.

I don't buy that for a second. People are complex. Putting people who fought honorably for their nation into a box of "evil man" is just as wrong as justifying evils committed in the name of a good cause.

As for the white supremacists... I'm really wishing that Death Note was a real thing right now, and that I had one.

That's just cheap moral equivalency. Only one side was running people down in cars yesterday. Only one side was demonstrating in favor of racism. 

The Lee statue really wasn't the point of the protests yesterday. The Swastikas and fascist eagles all through the crowd had nothing to do with the Civil War. It was just a general excuse for racist demonstrations. 

Actually, here's a better idea of what the protest was all about. 

Exactly. Let's drop the pretense - they just wanted to unite in their hatred. The sight of all those racist white men with torches - it looked like a lynching scene out of 1900, frankly. And they carry tiki torches? There's something funny about that part of it actually.



It's all sadly not surprising, but I am annoyed that this asshole President still wants to appease his hate-mongering white supremacist fans, so he strategically failed to denounce Nazism/white supremacists specifically in his statement - something I saw many Republican politicians doing. This country lost so many lives to stop the Nazis in World War II and he refuses to even directly mention them in his statement. But had it been a Muslim who drove his car into a crowd, he would have attacked Islam or called it a terrorist act. Had it been a Black Lives Matter protestor, he would have found some way to blame the entire Black Lives Matter movement. Had it been a Mexican or any non-white foreigner, he would have put out some statement about immigrants.

Whatever looks good for his PR at the moment... There’s a reason why he didn't react away to this matter.

You said it. Trump's only unyielding supporters at this point are people like David Duke—white supremacists who still believe that this country is rightfully theirs and nobody else's. From a political standpoint, it's almost functional—you may as well not alienate what little support you have left. 

There's really nothing Trump can do to win over his critics at this point—other than change, which he is fundamentally incapable of. He probably wakes up every day and decides to wing it. 

I've always thought he was an idiot. This is far from the worst thing he's done, but yeah, I won't go out of my way to defend him.

As for the whole situation, it's fucked up. It's kinda infuriating how divided the US is rn. I hate racism from both sides of the spectrum. This shit needs to end.
