Do we think that Colman wins the Emmy for her second season, just as Foy did? Anderson and Corrin are pulling a lot of the focus, but Colman is definitely the anchor. Yes, given what a juggernaut hit season 4 seems to be and what a force of nature Colman is becoming in the industry, it seems very likely they'll pull a Foy and award her for the second season. While she continues to be sidelined, I think she's even stronger in S4 so far (though that's arbitrary when it comes). Also I'm not sure she'll have a lot of competition (and won't really have any for the upcoming Golden Globes) because of COVID-19 (not sure Handmaid's Tale or The Morning Show will be back in time), so this should be a fairly easy win for her.

Excellent. Perhaps the best after season 1. 2nd and 3rd had some great episodes but were not consistently great. While i think the first season was perfect in all counts, the 4th one came close, especially the middle episodes were pretty great. The last two episodes were sadly more of the same. Probably due to them keeping the more juicy stuff for the next season. Writing in the last episodes could've been a bit more fresh or nuanced to be precise.
That said any minor flaws are overshadowed by the fantastic ensemble performances and the gorgeous set pieces. Less outdoor stuff this time. It's actually more of this castle to that castle shuffling. Still gorgeous to look at.
Emma Corrin and Gillian Anderson were MVPs for me followed by Josh O'Connor and Olivia Colman. One glaring complaint i have with this show is it gets away from Queen's psyche as the seasons progresses and new characters come. It makes sense story wise but this show is still about the Queen than anything less. I'd love to see they make her less passive. I do know she can't be expressive all the time but she is still a human being and it wouldn't do any harm to see more of that side.

Ah, but it’s not about the QUEEN it’s about the CROWN yeah, she’s wearing it, but she’s been basically settled into her miserable destiny since the end of the first season. Exploring how its weight continues to take a toll upon the people around her is the only real way to go to create drama, because they’re the ones who have had more of a struggle. The sister who feels like she deserves it, the husband living in the shadow of it, the son destined for it, etc.

There were glimpses but i don't think they are enough. One exemption to this is the scene in the last episode where she yells "endlessly complaining unnecessarily" on Charles. I loved that scene. I guess i have to settle with the fact that she doesn't react much as sovereign and that kind of slipped into her personal life too.

As usual with tv, runs out of steam as the years go by... this season felt like just a chit chat, but the main thing is, who told Gillian Anderson she was on Little Britain ? she was so over the top, all gesture and masks, you can tell she's composing the whole time, all she did was a satire. Love her but this is the worst performance I've seen all year.
Olivia, you're the queen.
Oh, and that scene where the Queen talks to the common man makes look the subway scene in Darkest Hour an exercise in restraint.

Very strong season overall. Some of the writing was too on the nose, but the cast was uniformly strong, especially Emma Corrin. That is the definitive Diana performance.
Anderson was great too. Her vocal fry took a bit of time to get used to but her expressions and mannerisms were on point.
Btw Prince Charles is a piece of shit.

6 episodes in, it's indeed a very strong season so far. Still don't think I like it quite as much as the first 2 seasons, but it's certainly more engaging and consistent than the third. Last season I couldn't help but think Colman paled in comparison to Foy, but I really feel like she's fully settled into the (tricky) role of Elizabeth this year, and I am enthralled by the magnificent subtlety of her work. I'm not totally sold on either Gillian Anderson or Emma Corrin - some things they do brilliantly, other things don't wholly convince me. Still, they've certainly made quite the impression, and I generally like how the season has gone about tackling their influences over the 1980s. The two Diana-centric episodes have been highlights so far, as was the terrific 'Fagan' episode, where I really appreciated the proper depiction of working-class struggles, rather than merely being told about them by the unaffected.
Can't wait to binge my way through the rest!

If you're interested, here's some more information on the fraught relationship between the Queen and Thatcher:

Just finished the season, and it went out on a very strong note. The finale was sombre and thematically cohesive in the way The Crown does so well at its best. Both Anderson and Corrin absolutely crushed it in their last appearances, and I now overall have a firmly positive opinion on both of their portrayals. This cast in general took some warming up to from me, but they were all absolutely tremendous this season and I'll miss them going forward. Here's hoping there's not too long a wait until the fifth season.

Morgan does not want anyone competing with his boo thang, I see... Didn't they already break up?

I never used to like her much (she was fine in Ghost Writer and the Sixth Sense but there was always something that annoyed me about her) but she was excellent in The Father. She looks and sounds absolutely nothing like Camilla so I am unsure about this, but she should hopefully be able to pull it off and tap into Camilla's sinister/snobby/sour puss energy. I am mostly worried she'll make her too sympathetic

Elizabeth Debicki seems to have nailed Diana's voice and mannerisms, and there really is a strong physical resemblance. This season looks fascinating.
