I'm 6 episodes in. Pretty good so far. Colman is spot on but it took me some time to digest Helena Bonham-Carter as Princess Margaret but she did fine.

I have way too much fuckin’ TV to catch up on right now. Hoping to get to this around the holidays maybe, but that’ll probably be the earliest. Really looking forward to it.

Finished it. Another very good season. The makers neatly transitioned the time period and actors change. Olivia Colman is pretty good but to my surprise she has less screen time than Claire Foy. Felt more like an ensemble piece and supporting characters like Princess Margaret, Duke of Edinburgh and Prince Charles were given enough development and the actors shined.
Aberfan and Tywysog Cymru episodes were my favorite episodes for how intense they were. Moondust episode was surprisingly profound.
Cinematography and costumes are as usual stellar.

Really? Her emotional beats are beautifully rendered, but her performance simply isn't technically skilled enough for her to convince as the Queen. You never once forget that you're watching Olivia Colman. It also doesn't help that Colman is 46 (looking 56) and playing the 40 year old Elizabeth.

I meant she kept it in line with Claire Foy well enough that there isn't any disparity between the two. On the other side i had trouble believing Carter who's in her 50s playing late 30s Margaret and she doesn't look anything like Margaret but she did get the character beats right and gave a solid performance.

How is Menzies so far? I had no reason to doubt either Colman or Carter... but just wondering how he's doing.

That fucking "Princess Alice of nowhere at all" scene in episode 5 is fucking magical. British Chuck D still got it.

Oh, I agree with you. And I like Colman's performance, too. I think it really comes down to what you personally value in performances. Colman is a wonderful actor putting her own unique stamp on an icon - you may prefer that to convincing mimicry.

Definitely not as good as season 1 (not saying much, very few things are as good as season 1) but still a damn fine, if very different season of TV. My biggest qualm with it is actually that I think they went over too much of the same sort of territory thematically (they just covered so damn much in the first season) and so it couldn't help but feel sort of samey a lot of the time. Hopefully he finds new ideas to delve into in future seasons.Mission accomplished, I think. Similarly to season 2 I think it started a little bit slower (episode 2 had me seriously worried because I think at times it felt almost like a parody of The Crown rather than the show itself, and I thought it was perhaps disappearing up its own ass), but once it hit episode 3 where it reached one of the peaks of the entire run I think it never really let up until the finale which was pretty ordinary right up until the tremendous ending pulled the whole thing back together again.

The moon landing episode is so lovely. I had a hard time not picturing Matt Smith every time Tobias Menzies was on screen but I was completely sold on him after this episode. The meeting with the astronauts was one of my favorite scenes of the show. Among the new cast, HBC was the only one I instantly felt comfortable with but with the other two, it took me some time to not miss Foy and Smith that just speaks how amazing they were. But overall, the show's very satisfying so far. Charles' episode was wonderful.

So fucking happy. Ending at 5 and not giving the final generation more than one season to leave a mark and stack up to the others felt rushed and setting themselves up for failure, so I'm very excited for this. We probably can't expect this before 2023 at the earliest though, right?

Jonathan Pryce added apparently ........ The Crown has found its new Prince Philip. Oscar-nominated actor Jonathan Pryce will reportedly tackle the role in the Netflix drama’s upcoming fifth and sixth seasons, taking over after Tobias Menzies and Matt Smith, according to Deadline. Netflix has not yet confirmed the casting. www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2020/08/the-crown-prince-philip-jonathan-pryce

Fucking amazing casting. I cannot wait. 2022 can't come soon enough. This makes that awful Kristen Stewart casting seem even more laughable in comparison.
