Call Me By Your Name Trailer
A few thoughts: It looks great. It's very beautifully shot and acted. For awards though, I can definitely see a fantastic critics run, and I think that the Globes, maybe BAFTA because of James Ivory, would really go for it. I don't know about AMPAS though. It's definitely getting a lot of nominations, but for the big prize, I still don't think they'll go for it right after Moonlight. Plus, it looks "light" in the trailer, and I think that they'll try to go for something again that is dramatic and has an important message.

Damn, that trailer made me swoon. The music was perfect and every shot had such sensual aura.
Can't wait.

Just stunning. I loved the novel. Really looking forward to this.
I hadn't realized that James Ivory wrote the screenplay!

Finally, a contender from this year with a good trailer. I'm not quite head over heels, but this looks nicely-done and could be a strong awards contender, though I could see it taking either the Moonlight route or the Carol route. Regardless, I'm looking forward to it. Stuhlbarg FTW.

The movie is already receiving backlash from both the SJWs and the Alt Right. Surprisingly, both sides can actually agree that it's "pedophilia". That's the main word I keep seeing on all the comments on the YouTube trailer. It's unfortunate and i just hope this doesn't affect the film in any negative way. :/

It's not, but most people aren't educated enough to know what pedophilia actually is.

Looks lovely but why do people think this will win Best Picture?

Apparently the younger actor is 21 but he looks like 16. I don't have a problem with it, it's just a movie.

Looks lovely but why do people think this will win Best Picture? I don't think it will but probably because it's the most acclaimed film of the year so far (98 MC score) and they have SPC behind.

Looks lovely but why do people think this will win Best Picture? I never predicted it to win Best Picture yet, but it feels like Manchester by the Sea in that it could be top 2 or 3. Plus, they both had the same trajectory of starting out at Sundance and being heavily praised right away. Further, it seems like it has a very good chance to win Best Adapted Screenplay just as Manchester-by the Sea was favored for Best Original Screenplay for a good part of the year. Lead actor Timothée Chalamet was praised and could possibly be the big critics' winner this year in that category just as Casey Affleck was last year; although, this year seems more competitive for lead male acting awards and critics may end up awarding CMBYN in other ways like Best Supporting Actor instead and/or giving Chalamet breakthrough prizes instead. Finally, Michael Stuhlbarg became the early frontrunner in supporting just as Michelle Williams became the early frontrunner for her category; although, she had three previous nominations under her belt as one of the reasons why she was favored. I could see why people are predicting it though because in recent years, it seems like Oscar voters have become aware of sites like Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes and have been influenced by those sites, and Call Me By Your Name could end up as the top rated film of the year or at least very close to it. I believe the lowest score Metacritic score that has won Best Picture recently is 86, and while the top rated film of the year doesn't always win ( Boyhood losing to Birdman, Carol not being nominated), it does seem that it is one of the factors that many voters are looking to now when voting. Also similar to that, in recent years, in some ways it seems like voters are being influenced more by top tier critics' awards, and Call Me By Your Name does seem like it should definitely be a critics' favorite. I don't know if either of these trends will last or maybe they're just coincidences, but it could be something that helps CMBYN. I have doubts about it winning Best Picture though because they don't tend to go for the same thing twice. I know it's different from Moonlight, but I think that to a majority of voters, it would be too similar. Plus, I think whatever is the frontrunner for Best Picture whether it's The Papers or something else won't be seen as too "light" as La La Land, and won't end up losing votes because of that. There's also this faux controversy. The backlash will probably be over by the time AMPAS votes for Best Picture, but the old guard is still a pretty big section of the Academy, and I could see many of them being uncomfortable with what looks to be a large age difference between Armie Hammer and Chalamet. It doesn't bother me, but I do think that Hammer looks like he's 30, like his age in real life, instead of being 24 which his character is in the book, and Chalamet looks younger than 17 to me, although not that much younger, I would peg him to be about 14-16.

I just finished the book the other and day and loved it. This trailer looks like it lives up to it in every way - beautiful, understated and passionate. I can't fucking wait.
As for awards contention, I think it will have more success than Carol but less than Moonlight. I think its mass acclaim and buzz will get it the major nominations, but they won't want to give Best Picture to a gay movie two years in a row. Just not gonna happen.

But Armie Hammer's voice....... who does it remind me of? Google tells me Brendan Fraser which I agree with... but there's someone else, dammit!

I think Moonlight's win makes it even less likely to happen, and Moonlight ticked the diversity box that was such a big talking point last year. I don't think this has a lot going for it aside from rave reviews.
