It's one of those things I won't believe until I see. I also wonder if his 'terrific' script will need to be completely rewritten, assuming it featured the character of Cy Tolliver.

It's been too long. We need to make like Rose and let go.

I have never watched this series. However, I will most likely start it sometime next week. That being said, Deadwood looks awesomely cast and I have heard good things. Is it worth starting?

Get ready, you limber-dicked cocksuckers.
Shame that Superpowers Boothe is gone -- Cy Tolliver was always one of my favorite characters.

Perhaps the motivation I need to see the show.
Of the TV 'greats' I haven't watched from the 2000 - 2009 period, this is the one I always mean to catch up on more than most.

I guess a lot of you are very excited for the Deadwood movie. I have never seen the series, inexplicably, despite it totally being my cup of tea. I really have to catch up on it. (Would have liked to see Walter Hill direct this one, but nevermind.) Here is a link to some set pictures etc. for those who might be interested: www.instagram.com/explore/tags/deadwoodreturns/

Jeffrey Jones seems to be part of the cast. Good for him, used to be a fine character actor (before... well you know)

First some trivia: Fincher almost directed the Deadwood pilot (Walter Hill won an Emmy & the DGA Award for it)
And then I have some questions for the Deadwood fans (as someone who has never seen it, but hopefully will someday). How do you feel overall about this being continued as a 2h or so movie? I know the series never had a proper ending. So it is certainly satisfying to see this getting some closure.
But isn't a movie a totally different commodity? Milch had 36 episodes to tell his story, build his characters and so. And now over a decade later, he resumes the whole thing. I mean, it's just different how to handle a character as a storyteller in a movie compared to a series. You can leave some people on the side for a few episodes, then pick them up again etc.
So how do you feel about this? Are you expecting somehing different with the movie or do you think it's going to be more like one long episode, virtuoso style? (I know there's a lot of hype among the actors about the script.)
And how satisfied are you with Daniel Minahan directing this? He knows the world, having already directed a few episodes. So are you fine with him, a serviceable craftsman bringing out the essence of Milch's script? Is there someone you might have preferred from those who have worked on the series, like Tim Hunter, Michael Almereyda, Alan Taylor, Davis Guggenheim or Tim Van Patten for example. Or would you have liked someone else from the outside to step in? Someone more high profile maybe, someone who brings more of his own style into the proceedings? And if so, who would you have in mind?
Thanks!

There are about a dozen core characters in the show, so in a single two hour movie I foresee a lot of them getting left out in the cold without much to do (maybe be in the background of a few scenes).
