Boring choice, Matt Reeves or Fincher are probably the better choice, If Villeneuve and Nolan really turn it down. Nolan reportedly has already told that he won't direct Bond 25.

Nolan reportedly has already told that he won't direct Bond 25. Shyt, what's the reason? www.empireonline.com/movies/news/christopher-nolan-categorically-rules-bond-25/He doesn't really say it, but from what he says you still can guess. "I’d love to make a Bond film at some point and I think those producers – Barbara [Broccoli] and Michael [Wilson] – they do a tremendous job and Sam Mendes has done a terrific job the last couple of films, so they don't particularly need me." This sounds to me as Broccoli and Wilson indeed have asked him, but perhaps were not willing to give him the amount of freedom he wanted.

I don't mind Boyle directing a Bond movie.

Hmm Boyle is alright enough . He is more hit than miss for me at least . Just glad it won't be Mendes again (do something else pal!) and of course glad that Nolan took his name out of the running (He's at a point in his career where he shouldn't be doing franchise stuff like this imo) .

Boyle would be a wild choice for a Bond film, which of course is why he probably won't get the job.

Danny Boyle confirmed for Bond 25 linkI'm not sold on their director's choice but happy that Craig is returning for one last time.

Not a fan of the idea of Boyle taking on Bond. But maybe he can surprise me in a positive way.

Wow.Dying to know what the 'creative differences' were.

This is scheduled to release next year, right? They'll need a replacement soon.

Could keep it if they hire a director quick. Female would please the critics and quickly quell w/e rumors may spring about why Boyle left.... in which case I mean I'd go with Kathryn Bigelow but the owner of the Bond rights Barbara Broccoli just produced an action film by Reed Morano (the only film she's produced outside of Bond) so I'm thinking if she likes what Morano did there that could be a solid, convenient hire for them......

Nolan would be never a "replacement director".

Wow, I'm definitely curious what creative differences EON could be having with Boyle. Didn't they approve Hodge's script, and hasn't the pre-production done in the last couple of months been for that? Could it be something as simple as casting idea differences rather than the story/script being the problem?
I have a feeling Mendes is going to come back...

he's a great indie director but a lame blockbuster director! Villeneuve, Please! Villeneuve has ‘Dune’ to concentrate on.

Probably for the best. I'm not all that crazy about Boyle as a director; he's far too erratic and distractingly flashy.
You know who I'd like to see do Bond? Lynne Ramsay. It'd be a really off-beat choice, but I think she'd be a bold pick.

As another poster said, there's a good chance they bring back Mendes at the last minute now. Or the film gets delayed and Craig drops out. That's the second most likely outcome.
As for the Nolan discussion, in the Sony leaks it was revealed the reason he didn't do Spectre is because he would have been tied down by Craig's ongoing story arc, when he wanted to be able to do his own thing with it with a new actor. So he's not going to do this one with Craig, although if it gets pushed back and Craig quits Nolan would be back in the converation. I generally wish Nolan would go back to doing smaller scale thrillers, or just get sick of doing genre movies and start doing dramas like Spielberg in the 90's. The exception to that would be him doing a Bond film. He's a huge fan and it's his dream to do one, so I'm sure he'd do a great job or at least do something unique and interesting.

I think if they do go the female director route, i’d want Bigelow.

I love Bond and I really like Boyle (but admit he's very hit and miss), but I never thought he was a good choice for Bond, and certainly the least interesting choice of anyone circling the project. I guess it's likely they'll call Yann Demange or Sam Mendes now.

That's a shame, I was kind of excited to see a Bond flick presented through his energetic lens.

He'll make Bond an Oscar worthy blockbuster but damn, he promised that he would never do any bond film! Oh really? I've never heard him publicly comment on it. According to the email leaks he was in serious talks to do Spectre.

FWIW, Telegraph claims that Boyle quit the movie because he wanted to cast Tomasz Kot as the Russian villain and Craig (who apparently has casting approval power) vetoed itI wouldn't be surprised if this just happened to be the final straw that led to Boyle exiting the project. There are also apparently whispers that producers wanted to tinker with the Hodge script, so it seems reasonable that Boyle just couldn't handle the studio interference and left or was fired. I also think Craig himself could be part of the problem. He won't seem to accept having a journeyman director and wants an auteur, but then can't deal with the fact they want to do things their way. He really should have never been given the exec producer role and so much power.
