I always kick ass with these lists Edit may be be necessary, as I had to go through IMDB list functions enough just to come up with these. I'll wait for some lists to see if I missed anything. Tinka Menkes - Queen of Diamonds Tilda Swinton - Orlando Emma Thompson - Howard's End Charlotte Very - A Tale of Winter Vanessa Paradis - Elisa Victoire Thivisol - Ponette Jennifer Jason Leigh - pretty much everything, but to go against the grain, I'll say...... Bastard Out of Carolina Robin Tunney - Niagara, Niagara Lisa Kudrow - Romy and Michele's High School Reunion Beatrice Romand - Autumn Tale Hilary Swank - Boys Don't Cry Winona Ryder - Girl, Interrupted Basically.... the features of this decade is Rohmer, Leigh - both Mike and Jennifer (I know I didn't put any Mike's performances), Ryder, and Thompson.

1999 and 1995 were incredible years for lead actresses

I agree completely, especially about 1999. Insanely strong year. I could have included more performances besides the four I mentioned.
As for 1995, Kidman and Streep are all-time favorites, and I also love Shue in Leaving Las Vegas.

Her carcatre was so much more interesting in my book. She would be right outside of the top 12. She, Pfeiffer/The Russia House, Paltrow/Shakespeare in Love, and Grier/Jackie Brown round out the top 16.
