more that was left out of the published interview.... Cage talks Ghost Rider... I've skipped those two but might watch 'em eventually, so for the fans clunkybob2 The_Cake_of_Roth Joaquim speaking of Ghost Rider, crazy that he was cast in Polanski's Ghost Writer then hadda drop out after a delay, one of three projects (and others too) he came close to doing this decade and would've been special, but didn't, along with Frank or Francis which couldn't get funding and Siberia - remember when him and Huppert were cast, my god!

I loved the shit out of Ghost Rider as a little kid so naturally when the sequel was announced I was fucking pumped...only to be disappointed. Cage was still awesome in both tho.

Either that, or Chan-wook Park realized that what The Brigands of Rattlecreek needed was a healthy dose of Cage Rage.

First off - I didn't know that Del Toro in the '90s wrote a "steampunk, Gothic Western" version Count of Monte Cristo - called The Left Hand of Darkness - and at some point met with Cage to star. Wow. Not too late for you to cast him in something Guillermo! Also curious..... if anyone puts the Pig perf in Cage's Top 10 or 5 or ? For me, it's wrestling for a spot around #15-20... Still, a remarkable perf.

Still, a remarkable perf. Maybe it's recency bias, but Pig is Top 5 for me. And Mandy is steadily rising as well. Really hoping that Butcher's Crossing caps the list as well when we see it. The material is there from the source novel -- it just depends on the adaptation.

Overwritten new article/ interview with Cage and a lot of funny, strange photos of him. And a hint of some project he may direct... flaunt.com/content/nicolas-cage-the-magic-issue"He tells me about an untitled/unannounced project he hopes to direct. A father/son dynamic where an estranged brother enters the picture. He plans to cast a real life father and son, and his own role will help frame the dynamic therein."

Congrats last night to Cage! Lots of love for him by his peers. Andrew Garfield ended his speech last night: "You're my genius, Nicolas Cage!" Cage immediately praises Alex Wolff and Jude Hill... he really loves young actors and always says how they inspire him. It makes me look forward even more to Butcher's Crossing as a continuation of his dynamics in Joe and Pig.
Here's the wonderful ending of his speech:
“I’m 58 and I’ve been doing this since I was 15…. But I feel like I’m just getting started. I am forever your student of film performance and I’ll always be looking for new ways to communicate with, surprise, and entertain you.”

https://www.reddit.com/r/movies/comments/tzxev3/hello_im_nicolas_cage_and_welcome_to_ask_me/Reddit AMA from the man himself today. Some great answers, like one person's dumb question "What's really in the beer cans in Willy's Wonderland?" and he gives a really thoughtful, generous answer that the question doesn't even merit. He seems adamant that Leaving Las Vegas, Bringing Out the Dead, and Pig are his best movies/perfs. David Lynch turned down a cameo in Unbearable Weight. He also mentions a conversation with Cronenberg that is very....Cronenbergesque. (They should work together!) Directors he wants to work with: Ari Aster, Robert Eggers, Nolan, Spike Lee. (Pretty standard group, surprised at no foreigners...)

www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-features/nicolas-cage-in-demand-films-pig-1235243969/ Sources tell THR that the actor was paid $7 million to lead Massive Talent and received close to $3 million for Renfield for a supporting role.
He had six live-action credits in 2019, four in 2018 and five in 2017. His fee for leading those VOD-type movies fell into the $1 million to $1.5 million range, with some profit participation thrown in.
On top of reopening studio doors — in addition to Massive Talent and Renfield, he is in various stages of discussions for sequels to such big productions as National Treasure and Face/Off — Pig’s success has allowed the actor to raise his price. One indie movie source says Cage’s quote is now $4 million.
/ Wish the article had some more scoops about the projects he's circling - we already know he's waiting on scripts for Face/Off 2 and National Treasure 3. It's obvious his rep is up and that he's outta the VOD funk, for the most part (which wasn't all bad btw). Further on my above post and Ari Aster.... clearly Cage reached out bc he's currently filming Dream Scenario which is Aster-produced. That's the best underlining aspect of this - the Neon, A24, etc type projects he's attracting now. I think he'll like to mix midnight-fare horror....with stranger character-based stuff.... and maybe throw the studios a bone doing one of those damn sequels.

Somehow I missed that this was by Kristoffer Borgli! This year's "Sick of Myself" is really quite good so I'll definitely be looking forward to this.
