Music: The Speedways "Radio Sounds" - This is close to an all-time classic Power Pop record - especially at the start - maybe THE best in genre in 2020 and this year had the ExBats for fncksake - this album is THAT good. Their 2nd record and the first from a couple years back was marvelous too - but this sound is now way punchier and immediate....... This band (surprisingly) is British - and their leader Matt Julian is a kind of pop genius at this stuff. Their videos are superb too - full of movie/pop culture history.....see below for an example. Movies: Watching the movies by John Adams, Toby Poser, Zelda Adams who are a mom/dad/daughter who made the kind of cool The Deeper You Dig .......their other films are interesting with lots of ideas - somebody give 'em some money - all their movies are 5's on IMDB.....they're better than that. Books: Re-reading Cathedral by Raymond Carver - stories get longer, stranger, more mysterious. TV: Nothing......except hockey and Judge Judy Food: Coffee, Pumpkin Spice Donuts/Muffins ......Halloween baby! Um.....rushing it.

Movies/TV: I was all over Peter O’Toole for about a week, then suddenly binged about seven Depardieus, and now into some of the Cambridge Five stuff (TTSS) and Guy Burgess portrayals from Hopkins, Alan Bates; and some kung fu which always brings me back to when I was a kid sprinting to this kung fu kiosk at the mall, probably my first taste of foreign-language cinema.
Books: Ebert stuff (Two Weeks in the Midday Sun, A Kiss is Still A Kiss, Behind the Phantom’s Mask)
Food: Roasted pecans, and Baskin Robbin’s Pistachio Almond ice cream. Quite literally going nuts.
Other: Trivial Pursuit (still), Jabin Botsford's photos of Trump, the way Chloe Grace Moretz says "File in"

Mexican food Songs of Leonard Cohen James Caan's "End of tweet" tweets Samurai Cinema* *Mainly chambara, but making room for adjacent stuff like Kwaidan; started with the first, Orochi (1925, that has an amazing climactic one-vs-all fight that predates everything), and moving on to the rest. About a dozen films seen so far, and more coming! Discovering actors I haven't really known about - Rentarō Mikuni, Tatsuya Nakadai, etc. Also been reading a lot on the Edo hierarchy, samurai techniques (iado!) and flipping thru Kurosawa's autobio and other books I have like Reading A Japanese Film, etc. Now if that ain't an obsession.

Eli Wallach in the 3rd Godfather.....about to eat his cannoli......um.......

Movies - An absurd amount of horrors, of course. All kinds - classics, Corman, Cushing, Price, anthologies, giallo, schlock, etc.
and Cinephobe.tv and their selection lately. I mean in a 48 hour span they'll screen some Welles, OC & Stiggs, Ladybug Ladybug, The Ear, Intimate Confessions of a Chinese Courtesan, Sugar Cane Alley, Kiss the Blood off My Hands etc. They're a goldmine. Books - Been reading some of my Poe Complete Tales (Some Words With a Mummy most recently, so satiric and punny), and picked up a few from Ruth Rendell, and the two have now met in her A Demon in My View.
Food - Banh mi sandwich, Dark Reese's Thins, and good ol' BBQ Lay's chips

Just found out about the National Police Gazette, maybe the most trashiest magazine ever produced, and it was issued between 1845 and 1977. Unabashedly debasing towards everybody and everything, especially women and celebrities, and struck thru with all sorts of ludicrous alarm it's a surprise it isn't satire. So that's been my obsession today! It was commonly available in barbershops throughout the decades, apparently..... as the old joke goes, a man is asked if he reads the Police Gazette and he replies "No, I shave myself."

This album ("Disappear") is posted now on bandcamp - and it's pretty great, probably their/his best record ever or at least his tightest - still not on Youtube (streaming only until 2021 (?) wtf)....but worth seeking out - very reminiscent of mid-60s era The Who......or GBV
