Mattsby , stephen , Viced - I'm not really recommending the book below but you guys should be familiar with it, with what it is and that it exists because someday they are going to make a movie of it and you'll want to know why you're condemned to Hell for loving this story this much Music : The Only Ones (Peel Sessions), The ExBats (Kicks, Hits and Fits) Movies: "Phantom of the Opera" type stuff - House of Wax (1953), DePalma's Phantom of the Paradise ......I'll have to watch the actual Phantom next I guess. TV: Old stuff re-watches Johnny Staccato, Twilight Zone, Alfred Hitchcock Presents Book: Wraiths of the Broken Land by S. Craig Zahler - An absolutely bat-shit Western that may resurrect or kill the genre entirely. Part Western-part Tarantino and not just in style but in sensibility. The problem is I don't know if Zahler will be able to pull this film off....but it will be something seeing him try unless he chickens out because this isn't a book, it's an original movie pitch meeting. Quarantine: Ike Reilly has put a new home acoustic concert on Youtube - yeah it's still a blast and funny of course. Here ~ at the 3:00 minute mark he tells a humorous and pathetic story about "dating a racist" and plays a new song off his upcoming 2020 best of the year contending album because I'm sure it will be - his last one topped my 2018 list - which IS the official list btw (um) - and may have been his best or most consistent at least ever.[/b]

I actually just finished reading Zahler's Mean Business on North Ganson Street a couple of weeks ago. Brutal, vicious, and grimy beyond belief. Made me feel scuzzy while reading it. Same with his very fine script The Brigands of Rattlecreek, which I'm super-stoked to see Park Chan-wook take on. I've got Wraiths on my Kindle and I plan to give it a go sometime, but going off of what you've read so far, who would be your dream production team to make it?

This one will be Zahler who I'm guessing sees this as his Plan 9 From Outer Space - because I can't imagine anyone else would touch it - or him letting go of it - but if he didn't I would suggest they get John Maclean because there are elements in the framework that somewhat resemble Slow West (sort of) but with more room to move and way more flourish. Gosling for the lead which would be a cult part to rival Drive (not kidding) - and I hate to be obvious but there are twins prostitutes that have the Fannings names all over them.

Isn't it incredible? I didn't expect Martinez's score in a period piece to fit so well, but it does wonders. The makeup is also incredible and there's a cyst in the second season that is really memorable.

And the cinematography is lovely too, some absolutely beautiful low-key period lighting. And yeah, I love how gruesome and bloody it is with an intense attention to the period detail. Definitely liking some characters/stories more than others, at least through the first four episodes, but it's incredibly interesting so far and pretty unique too.

Music: Bob Dylan, especially Blood on the Tracks and Blonde on Blonde 2 of his 3 best (Street Legal being my pick for the other 1, and probably my very favorite work from his at this point).

The ensemble is aces -- enjoy!

Oh honey, the Narco-Satanic range of Beauty Products, only available from Catemaco, Mexico. Their Night Cream, made with the blood of virgins, is said to be the most effective treatment to reverse aging... I'm also a huge fan of their LSD infused lipsticks and cocaine crackle nail polish. These products are not tested on animals... but do contain animal and body parts. They say their Soul Selling facials, can take 100 years off. Allegedly, Jane Fonda is a big fan. A very big fan. They are also a company you can trust, and their mission statement says they see Gwyneth as the 'Anti-Christ'.

Taking people who say "bro" ironically as if they are being dead serious... I hope they hate that as much as I hate them saying it. Ironically or otherwise (but let's be real here, 90% of the time I hear "bro" it's being said ironically).

This shot/scene from Spoorloos. The Third Man vibes. Children of Men also had a similarly haunting type of shot...

Richard Burton quotes! Dude should've been a writer. His description of Sophia Loren: "She is as beautiful as an erotic dream. Tall and extremely large-bosomed. Tremendously long legs. They go up to her shoulders, practically. Beautiful brown eyes, set in a marvelously vulpine, almost satanic, face."
Lots of gems here: www.imdb.com/name/nm0000009/bio?ref_=nm_dyk_qt_sm#quotes

Music - "G Stands For Go-Betweens Vol. 2" boxset - makes a case for them as the best band ever (they're not) or in the 80s (they're not) or from Australia (ok......maybe).....but this is really great and with a ton of unreleased stuff and hard to find stuff that in some cases tops their proper albums. Film - Phantom of the Opera (1925) - Still holds up and with an eerie, tragic pull....and a great performance TV - Watching old Hill Street Blues.....people should watch it if they never have. Best network TV acting of its time Books - Woody Allen's Apropos of Nothing - Funny, easy to read even when it gets in to serious stuff - like re-reading it in parts already Food - Breakfast for dinner ........time means nothing atm tbh

Music : The Chills - Brave Words (1987) - One of 1987's and the whole decades most underrated albums - at its frantic best it sounds like no other 80s band at all ... when it gets atmospheric it is deceptively dark when you think it's sunny........you have to keep playing it to get it - a sleeper album but when it eventually breaks though it does big time. The song "16 Heart Throbs" is an incredibly creepy ode to Jayne Mansfield and getting lost in the movies......this album might have the worst recorded mix ever - it is insanely low .......a huge mistake - these are special songs.....cut off at the knees.
Books - Re-reading Jerzy Kosinski's Cockpit - One of his more interesting and twisted later books.....not great but onto something.
Movies - Early 70s UK horror lately sub-Wicker Man and in that era ........"folk horror"
TV - Marathon of classic Twilight Zone again : and also Unsolved Mysteries on Netflix against my better judgment
Food - Crab and Pasta concoction from a local restaurant that's addictive and expensive
Non--Alcoholic Beverage - Nantucket Nectars Orange-Mango

Music - A Hero's Death - Fontaines D.C. - Obviously...... Movies - The Noose (1958) - Fascinatingly bleak film I watched a couple days back and had never seen before and keep thinking about. Book - Chasing The Light - Oliver Stone - Insightful, repetitive, ego-stroking verging on parody autiobiography of phase 1 of his career. Has a great initial love/hate(ish) rapport with Pacino whom he calls "street Hamlet" both reverentially and sarcastically ......sounds about right. TV - Goliath - catching up on some missed episodes and rewatching some Food - Klondike bars.......you ever notice how many different kinds of Klondike bars there are? Song - It's Too Late Brother - Little Walter - One of those ominous blues songs that is about, but never answers, whether the character in question may just be about to die or ........about to be murdered.
