I'm starting to wonder if it's time to start taking Anya Taylor-Joy off these lists. I thought she was a superstar in the making based on her performance in The Queen's Gambit, but since then she hasn't been hitting like I expected her to. And with the box office flopping of Furiosa, she's not going to have the cushion of a big franchise role which she carries. It's such a competitive market for "It Girl" starlets, and I think she might be losing some momentum, with plenty of other would be It Girls vying for her spot. I honestly think Millie Bobby Brown is potentially a major box office draw, but we may never know since she never does any projects outside of Netflix, aside from Godzilla. But the fact that she's getting top billing in her Netflix movies over the likes of Henry Cavill and Chris Pratt says a lot. But it's that same sort of risk aversion that had Jason Momoa's people avoid him doing films meant for theatrical release outside of Aquaman, and do most things on streaming. Of course she got top billing in those films, she's the fucking lead ![](//storage.proboards.com/6692321/images/30ulL7PvEvGt97femFHx.gif) Like unquestionably the lead, Cavill had maybe 30 mins of screen time in Enola Holmes. Yeah, not only was she the lead, but those movies are geared for teen audiences. Of course the top billed actor would be the teen.

I don't know exactly who it's marketed to or who has what level of screen time. All I know is that Cavill plays Sherlock Holmes, Brown is supposed to be his little sister and she was nominated/won for some critics awards for her performance. It's still impressive for leading men with a profile like Cavill to take a step back and play support act to a teenage actress. It's one thing to do that for Tom Cruise in a Mission Impossible movie, but it's not common for an actor like Cavill to play support in a franchise to someone like Brown. Ego often prevents that kind of casting. Same reason I found it impressive that a leading man of Chris Pratt's level was willing to cede top billing to Brown in their upcoming film The Electric State. It speaks for how she's seen in industry circles that these guys are signing up to projects with her, where they aren't neccesarily top of the call sheet. That's all.

Chris Hemsworth is proof that streaming success and box office success are two different pairs of shoes. While his streaming junk for Netflix is apparently generating huge viewing numbers he can't open a theatrical movie to save his life when he's not playing Thor, and in that case the Marvel brand ist the draw. There's a big difference between starting a movie that is prominently placed on the home screen of the Netflix app and going to a movie theater to pay money for a particular film.
So it's doubtful that MBB's viewing numbers on Netflix would translate to box office success.

Streaming success and box office pull do not always correlate with actors, and Hemsworth is the perfect example of that. He is not a draw at the box office outside of Thor. If you believed the way Netflix talk about his Extraction movies, he'd be the biggest action movie draw in the world. But, but...in a world with so few new genuine "movie stars" are being created, where people like Anya Taylor-Joy, who have never even opened a movie successfully are given theatrical releases time after time that lose money, and Jacob Elordi who has opened nothing is being called a "New A-lister", I think it's absolutely worth it to test actors/actresses who have a following on streaming platforms, to see if they can generate a following in theatrical box office as well. What have you got to lose exactly?....studios keep giving chances to untested talent who sell magazine covers but are not draws. Someone like Millie Bobby Brown, based on her following for years as a streaming star, deserves a shot to see if she can translate to theatrical. Some will and some won't. But you'll never find out unless it's attempted.

But you'll never find out unless it's attempted. Sure, but as you already mentioned Netflix is the safe, risk-avoiding choice, so maybe she does get offers by studios but prefers to do Netflix movies instead. She likely gets a higher upfront salary from Netflix than a studio would give her and doesn't depend on the movie's success for backend compensation. With the Netflix algorithm placing them prominently on the home screen new Netflix Original movies are almost guaranteed to get many views, and even if not a movie doing badly on Netflix is forgotten in a week whereas a theatrical bomb is talked about for months or years. So I can see how sticking to Neflix could be the more convenient route for some actors who already have a working relationship with them.
Not saying ATJ is a big draw but she does have The Menu as successful theatrical release at least.

I definitely think that Volpi Cup-winning, Golden Globe-nominated Cailee Spaeny deserves a mention here. ![](https://64.media.tumblr.com/dc280de071516d553526aba929f71c11/3028918c51b4b853-d1/s540x810/2d129e15d67a4f6675b90b80a0c2f8b4a107d449.gif) She has amazing taste in film, by the way.
