Daniels' work remains as divisive as ever, receiving a score of 62.
And now for 2021's winner, Jane Campion for The Power of the Dog
How would you rate this achievement from 0 to 10?

6.5. I feel like Campion is going through the motions on so much of it.

6. Some of it is memorable (The piano practice piece is still in my ear, discovering the magazines, 360' rotating camera when the boy's calming down Cumberbatch near the end, the exchange of smokes) but doesn't have much to add to the conversation of things, and oh its about many things.

If you read the book (great btw) you really get an idea of how much she slightly modernized it in the writing and directing.........

(in here and general) You mean you haven't seen his plethora of posts about her acting tricks of spinning around in circles to appear drunk and using ice cubes on her hands before playing piano?? Where have you been?? Jk

Jk Oh I remember now... though it's probably too late I do love her acting tricks and her sharing them, one of the most underrated and bad take performances on MAR in PotD - and we have a lot of bad takes on acting and what not (RDJ being great in Chaplin, nah - etc) What's weird is I like her a lot in general - but I find her overrated in Melancholia and Civil War is among the worst movies of this year Go figure, huh?

I'll go 7. It's beautifully made, but I think Dunst is bad, and how you have this whole thread running through the movie where her husband keeps wandering off and leaving her in awkward situations and don't mine it for the potential world-class comedy it could be I don't know. It also gets oddly elliptical at the end.

8/10.
Certainly nowhere near the poetry of The Piano and, in my view, not quite deserving of this huge of a sweep during the season, but still a pretty excellent achievement with Campion bringing fascinating psychological colors to what could've been a more traditional storytelling endeavor. Love the feeling of unease she infuses it with.
