yeah IDK, I'm not an expert prognosticator either but Dune 2 feels really undeniable. Obviously it's only April but I can't imagine that many projects this year being as big... Gladiator 2 will have hype but probably weaker reviews, Joker 2 same thing, Furiosa same thing, Megalopolis is a huuuuuge question mark, and as far as I know the Kosinski racing movie is still filming so a 2024 release is questionable at best. As far as more critical fare, obviously there's the Steve McQueen film, maybe Guadagnino's Queer if that comes out, something out of Cannes maybe. I think the year will be strong for certain categories, especially tech, but Dune 2 is such a juggernaut. It's an incredible technical achievement and a big-budget thinking person's blockbuster sci-fi epic in a cinematic landscape where those simply aren't made on this scale (not since Fury Road). Villeneuve has viral appeal and mainstream respect and his nom is a give-in. You don't need to drink sandworm piss to see it.
