My personal favorite is his performance in Catch Me If You Can. I could watch that film a thousand times and never get sick of it.

1. The Wolf of Wall Street (imo should have won the Oscar) 2. Catch Me If You Can (can't believe he was like 27 when they filmed this) 3. The Aviator ("show me the blue prints" ) 4. Titanic (the role that turned him into a mega star) 5. Gangs of New York (accent was a bit suspect but overall I thought he held his own against DDL)

He's given a lot of great performances, but it's obviously The Wolf Of Wall Street.

I've made it no secret that I've found DiCaprio's collaborations with Scorsese to be lacking, to put it mildly. He is wholly out of his element in Gangs of New York (although in fairness to him, he's saddled with a weak character/overly simplistic revenge storyline that saps him of any complexity, and he's up against the greatest living actor going at full throttle). He is miscast in The Aviator and despite his efforts, he never sticks the landing (hardy-har-har). But he's far from the only flaw in that film. He's actually very strong in The Departed, but that film is hamstrung by Damon and Nicholson. He's miscast again in Shutter Island, coming off far too boyish and you can see the effort in every move he makes. That's always been my issue with DiCaprio in the 2000s; you could see him trying for De Niro-esque intensity, but it just didn't suit him.
Then came The Wolf of Wall Street.
This, in my opinion, made the other Scorsese team-ups worth it. At some point between Shutter Island and Wolf, DiCaprio figured something out. He is not a chameleonic actor like Day-Lewis. He is not an actor who can make intensity his bread-and-butter like De Niro. He is a movie-star, with all that moniker entails. And he figured out that if he takes that natural presence and tweaks it, it works. Inception, I would argue, was the first time that he put it to good use. Then he really perverted that marquee wattage with Django Unchained. (Then Gatsby happened, but less said about that the better.) But he went for utter broke in The Wolf of Wall Street, delivering an exhaustive (but not exhausting) three-hour tour-de-force that I never would've expected from DiCaprio. It revealed his true talents and used them to their fullest potential, delivering a deliriously delicious turn that, in my opinion, is one of the great comedic performances of the modern age. If it weren't for Matty Mac, he would be my win for 2013 Best Actor with a bullet.
Funnily enough, The Wolf of Wall Street seemed to loosen up DiCaprio so that when he returned to brooding intensity with The Revenant, it worked. I bought him as that character, and the emotions and reactions felt genuine and not forced in the least. Perhaps that's the skill of Alejandro, but I think it's also because DiCaprio flushed out his journeyman attempts at matching his "idols" and instead tapping into his strengths. He's a better actor for it now.
