I mean, it's still early and things could change, but most signs still point (at least to me) to either Killers of the Flower Moon or Oppenheimer. So I can definitely see where you're coming from!

You think this is in bad taste - wait until you see what the Academy does with it with a full special effects display As Oppenheimer said himself: "You were my pills, you were my thrills..........You were my hope baby, you were my smoke"

Would love to hear from the 2 people who voted for Poor Things. I don't think it's even Top 3 atp.

I am sticking with Oppy for now, but The Holdovers looks awfully tempting with Original and Supporting Actress. Zone got a little boost today.

Speaking for myself, I think it's going to do very well with BAFTA and could take Actress, Adapted Screenplay and at least one tech, and if it does well at the box office, I think it could make for a reasonable challenger. Searchlight knows what they're doing.

Oppenheimer, though it lacks a progressive narrative, making it feel slightly less likely for the big prize than for Nolan to win, but still is my choice.
Over:
Killers detractors feel louder, it was a box office faliure, and Scorsese already won.
Poor Things will tell us just how much of the academy like Lanthimos, as one should not forget that the Favourite almost went home empty handed. And frankly, in some ways period film about royalty traditionally is more up their alley than mad cap sci-fi. Lanthimos could be a PTA, someone who a portion of the academy loves, allowing nominations, but struggling to get wins.
Very few people seem to dislike The Holdovers, so I do think it will do very well on a preferential ballot, but it also lacks a progressive narrative and maybe feels "too small".
Barbie's toy background I think probably prevents it from going further, despite its 30 minutes of speechifying to establish just how "important" it is.

Supporting actor/actress + screenplay is a pretty common combo for Best Picture. I don't think we should change horses just yet.
How far are you with Sunny? I have seen Seasons 1-15 at least three times.

Searchlight knows what they're doing. Tbh doing well with the BAFTAs is bad news with the Oscars these days. BAFTA best film and Oscars BP have matched twice in the past 10 instances. Though in that event it's probably worse for Oppenheimer as I see Oppenheimer steamrolling the BAFTAs. Nolan is English, Murphy is Irish, and Blunt is English, whereas the cast of Poor Things is generally American.

Oppenheimer, but I can see the case that Poor Things is being underestimated.

Oppenheimer, but I can see the case that Poor Things is being underestimated.By me it is for sure. I haven’t seen it yet and I anticipate it being one of my favorite movies of the year, but from an Oscar BP perspective I think it’s 5th at best in terms of winning.

If I go by the way Academy has typically leaned for Best Picture wins, I predict KOTFM as Oppenheimer will likely be rewarded in Director and I have a feeling it won't be rewarded for both the top prizes.
If I go by vote-splitting passion for KOTFM and Opie then may be The Holdovers could be the surprise win?

I'm waiting for the season's nondescript TV movie everyone will have forgotten exists in 6 months time to rear its head before making my decision.

Still going with Oppenheimer but i'm starting to see Flower Moon's chances. It could take picture, actress and screenplay where Oppy might end up with director, supporting actor and editing.
