Maybe it had something to do with that horrible tweet where she exploited the results of the election to advertise her movie LOL
I feel so, so hurt right now. Why, America? #artimitateslife #misssloane

Last year turned out to be so packed that she was bound to get left out anyway, but even without taking the competition into consideration, she had far too many factors stacked against her. For starters, it was always going to be a tough sell given the subject matter and the way it got misrepresented from the get-go as an anti-gun propaganda piece (which anyone who actually watches it realizes it clearly isn't). Given how easily it had triggered several people before it had even premiered, and also the horrible political climate it debuted against, they needed a strong marketing effort to dispell that bad buzz and make it palatable for audiences, and instead they were saddled with EuropaCorp, who don't have the faintest idea what they're doing and who all but gave up on it before they even put out a full-length trailer. They're such a mess they simply wouldn't have succeeded in making it a hit, but they didn't even try. And though Chastain has had a few box-office successes as a lead (in fact, she has one playing in theaters right now), she can't sell something like this on her own. Few people can. Then there's the fact that while she was unanimously praised, the film itself didn't inspire passion (that ludicrous final twist seriously undermines its impact). No one was really talking about it, nor were they in a rush to see it amidst so many other, more successful contenders. And she was filming Molly's Game for most of the season, so she couldn't campaign.
So yeah. All those reasons. The Globe nomination was a nice score, though, considering even that was far from a done deal.
As for my opinion, she was simply on fire in this thing. Single-handedly held the film together and gave one of the most magnetic performances of last year, even if the writing she was working with wasn't always up to par. Electrifying is a perfect way to describe it.

She's absolute dynamite... reminded me of Faye Dunaway in Network. It might be my favorite performance of hers after Miss Julie.

She was fine but had no chance in such a strong year for actresses like last year.

I love Jessica Chastain she's a great actress.. but neither the movie nor her role in it deserves any nominations for any kind of awards!

Her movie and the her performance are hilriously awful, misjudge in legendary proportions. If there's something I can't stand in films is how someone can make a movie of something they think they know about, but they really don't, navigating a subject you don't know anything about, or in this case, having a narrow view of things. I'm not asking for a true-to-life kind of film, I never do, but the fantasy this film and her performance creates is really annoying and elevates fanaticism to biblical proportions. I'm baffled by how the film got a free pass by some major critics just because it's political.

She was fantastic in the movie, but last year was absolutely packed, and the film itself wasn't very good.
And yeah, I love Chastain, but that tweet...wasn't good.

She was pretty good, but the film was only fairly well-received and was not a "hit" either. Not to mention last year was stacked. There's no way she going to get nominated.

Probably. I feel like I'm one of the few who really liked the film, and she was great.
