I was very shocked/sad to hear this news.
I'm assuming that this means the guys will leave the 'incubator' at the end of this season. It's a move that I never thought the writers would have the balls to do, but it opens up tons of potential for development in later seasons.
The show will sorely miss Erlich, though part of me feels that the character has sort of run his course by this point. I mean, he's still the source of a handful of great punchlines per episode, and has been a driving force behind some quality subplots (namely Seefood) this season, but he hasn't felt like an essential part of the show in the past two seasons. I think the biggest drawback of losing him is that it will throw off the dynamic of the cast. They'll probably need someone else to step up to fill in that "goofball comic relief" role, otherwise I don't see the series functioning quite as flawlessly as it does now.
I also do have some concern about the fact that this wasn't confirmed until long after the current season wrapped development and production. I sort of doubt he will be given a proper send-off at the end of this season, which would be a shame.
