Elemental (or Forces of Nature) is a computer animated romantic comedy-drama and the 27th Pixar film. The animated feature appeared to be a box office bomb, only grossing almost 30 million domestically on opening weekend. But due to the strong word of mouth and lack of competition, the film ended up grossing just over 150 million dollars at the U.S-Canadian markets and just over 277 million for international markets.
Pixar has quite a remarkable record with the Oscars. Only Cars 2, Monsters University, Cars 3, The Good Dinosaur, Finding Dory, and Lightyear failed to score a single Oscar nomination. That's a 77% success rate. Since 2018, we have seen at least one Pixar film nominated for Best Animated Feature.
The film received mostly positive critical feedback: 7.1/10 IMDB user score, 74% Rotten Tomatoes approval rating, and a 70/100 Critics Choice Association rating, which is seen as slightly negative in their rating system.
This is not seen as a top tier Pixar production, but does it have enough juice to land a Best Animated Feature nod?

At this early point I'd say yes. I'm thinking of this potential lineup:
- Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse - The Boy and the Heron - Elemental - Wish - Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget
But I'm only confident in the first two (with Spidey winning). There're plenty of contenders this year - Nimona, TMNT, Ernest & Celestine 2, Suzume, Robot Dreams, maybe even Super Mario with how successful it was. So I can see a lot of different combos happening with Elemental getting lost in the shuffle. But I'm predicting it now.

Ultimately, no. Ignoring the fact that it’s not great Pixar, even now the field is too crowded, and we still have Disney, Aardman, and Miyazaki (and possibly a fringe contender or two) coming up.
