You Hurt My Feelings is a comedy-drama from writer and director Nicole Holofcener, and stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus as a New York novelist who gets upset after hearing second-hand that her husband dislikes her latest book. This is Holofcener's tenth outing as a writer and seventh as a director. She was nominated for an Oscar for writing Can You Ever Forgive Me? (2018) and scored two WGA nominations for Please Give (2010) and Can You Ever Forgive Me?. In fact, she actually beat out Spike Lee at the 2019 WGA awards.
The reviews for YHMF have been quite good: 95% Rotten Tomatoes approval rating, 85/100 Critics Choice score, and a 7.2/10 IMDB user score. Since its release on May 26th, its already grossed over three million dollars at the U.S-Canadian box-office in less than a thousand theaters. Reading over the reviews, there seems to be a lot of high praise for the screenplay and the performance from Dreyfus.
What do you think of its awards potential? Keep in mind two things: A24 distributed the picture. Holofcener's work is quite popular with the Independent Spirit Awards committee. Lovely and Amazing, Friends With Money, Please Give, Enough Said, and Can You Ever Forgive Me? were up for major awards there.

No Indie Spirit either? Personally I think it is going to get at least Critics Choice, Globe, or Guild nominations. A24 is an awards bait production company, and you have familiar faces at the top. I see this film similar to Enough Said or Lovely and Amazing. I am not going to go Oscar nod, but still in the conversation. |
