Copy and paste from when I asked this question on Reddit.
It doesn't have to be during your lifetime, I mean all time. It depends. But...
Film: 1950s
Music: 1970s
TV: 2000s
Video Games: 2010s
I could add literature and art, but I feel they're more century based stuff.

I don't watch enough TV to care about the medium......Video Games mean far less to me than TV does...... * Music: - For me it's the 80s slightly ahead of the 70s although I could easily flip flop on this - it's close: The 70s had the most great music but for me ........it just misses usually in a more specific way: Punk in the 70s - which I love - recontextualized Rock......but Punk was mostly a singles genre - and the Punk bands that made great albums in the 70s often didn't make many of them anyway ( Television, Sex Pistols, Heartbreakers etc) - it's harder to build a sustainable canon of 70s Punk than it is of 1980s alternative for me..... * Film: The 70s by a large margin - the 70s cut so deep that a movie like Scarecrow would be maybe only a 3rd tier classic ffs ....not only that, it was amazing in World Cinema .......the 70s were the decade of "revisionism" and once you've done successful revisionist works........ you just get what we have had since..........old stuff that seems old because the revision cuts deeper .........and going forward a new copy of the revision .........a copy of something, of a copy * Literature: I have a deeper affinity for the transgressive / cult novels from the 60s - Diary of a Rapist, A Fan's Notes, A Man Asleep, Revolutionary Road (far better than the film), Steps.....and things like that - at least I return to them the most and reference them more.......I mean if you read those books ^ you kind of feel like you are doing something really wrong and may be judged harshly by people whose approval you most want.......like that you could be locked up for merely reading them..... From "A Man Asleep":
