RT score not out yet, but The Creator is getting some pretty stunning early reviews, with many calling it the best and most original science fiction film in years and John David Washington getting career best/awards level talk for his lead performance, and his young co-star Madeline Yuna Voyles also being singled out as a scene stealer.

those are solid reviews (better than what i was expecting prior to the first reactions that came out) but man, yet another example of how initial twitter reactions need to get taken with a grain of salt. they get worse year after year.

Considering the general take of these reviews I know they didn't go this direction, but I've felt since the first trailer the more interesting thing to do with this premise would be to play the emotions of the A.I. characters as ambiguous before ultimately revealing the kid is in fact evil and the robots are emotionally manipulating humans.

Woah woah woah, are you telling me the twitter reactions were hyperbolic? When has that ever happened?

Woah woah woah, are you telling me the twitter reactions were hyperbolic? When has that ever happened? This is even more common on genre films because the studios invite writers from genre websites to the first screenings.

Either way I’m still pretty excited for this and it’s pretty cool that it was shot on a camera you can buy at Best Buy on less than 1/4 of the budget of The Marvels (or any current studio tent pole) while looking 10x better.
