A bunch of talented people - ok, two - um..........and Shia, Travolta, Courtney Love (!) in a movie by right wing nutjob / one of the best writers of all-time - at one time certainly - David Mamet - a man whose opinions on politics make pacinoyes seem like a Socialist Bernie Sanders voter (um) New American classic or trainwreck incoming..........The GOAT is Sam Giancana right? Hmmmmmmm - this is movie 1056 in his "still not King Lear" drinking game Oscar winner Al Pacino (The Godfather), Oscar nominee Viggo Mortensen (Green Book), Oscar nominee John Travolta (Pulp Fiction), BAFTA winner Shia LaBeouf (Honey Boy), NBR Award winner Rebecca Pidgeon (Heist) and Golden Globe nominated singer and actress Courtney Love (The People vs. Larry Flynt) are set to star in the thriller Assassination, we can reveal. The film, which Arclight is launching for the Cannes market, is to be directed by Pulitzer Prize-winner and Oscar nominee David Mamet (Wag the Dog) from a script he co-wrote with Nicholas Celozzi. Assassination will retell the fateful murder of John F. Kennedy from the mob’s point of view, reimagining his death as a hit ordered by Chicago mob kingpin Sam Giancana as payback for JFK’s attempt to undermine the mob after they helped get him elected (that thread formed a big part of Oliver Stone’s JFK). deadline.com/2023/05/al-pacino-viggo-mortensen-john-travolta-shia-labeouf-courtney-love-david-mamets-jfk-assassination-cannes-1235366496/

I thought Mamet dropped outta this project after it was announced last year--guess not! The original Deadline article has lots of quotes from the writer and Mamet who likens it to The Godfather. (Take it easy!) Pacino a few weeks ago said he was doing a new movie with Mamet so I'm glad it's actually something and happening. Mamet no stranger to the dogs of Chicago organized crime (mostly the 20s, 30s--he wrote a book about the era) and he was working on a Zapruder conspiracy movie too at some point. I've been craving for him to return to the director chair - I just this week rewatched House of Games and Homicide (with the Mamet/Macy commentary). He's also gotta new movie-biz book Everywhere An Oink Oink out this December. Robert Elswit shooting it, there we go.

From World of Reel so you know "grain of salt" and all that ......but if true Pacino has a lot of stuff done "pre-Lear" - if he does Lear I mean - this, Sniff (w / Mirren, Freeman......shooting now?), Knox Goes Away, Billy Knight.....
Now, I’m hearing that things are moving very fast and that Mamet will be shooting “Assassination” this coming September in Vancouver. So, there’s a chance it might actually be released in 2024

Viggo and Mamet should be enough to get it off the ground. Could we replace both Pacino and Travolta with Malkovich, please? James Ransone instead of Shia. And jettison Love. Others I'd like to see again - Ed O'Neill, Clark Gregg, Jordan Lage, Jim Frangione and Charles Stransky. Too many good ones have passed - Ricky Jay, Lionel Mark Smith, J.J Johnston, Paul Butler, etc.

Schrader, Mamet, Pacino, Travolta? What is this 1981? Get Gerwig to direct it because she is soooooooooooooo good (sarcasm), tell it from the POV of the female sleeping with 2 white male saviors (Kennedy & Giancana) and see how THAT flies in 2023 especially when this movie has more whites in it than "The Donny Osmond Story".........and make it metaphorical............ like Republicans get in trouble fncking after cash, Democrats get in trouble fncking with their wangs: Jimmy Carter with "Lust in his Heart" (and you know being awful, um) Kennedy, Clinton ........Biden (that's just a joke) I say this (maybe?) never films.......ah well......

I'm pretty sure Schrader's going to pass on this, considering he just posted "when great minds collapse: David Mamet and Oliver Stone."

This is a very strange pic and I think may resemble something much different than what has been leaked........I assumed Pacino was playing Sam Giancana ....playing Accardo makes me think no one is playing Giancana at all .....um......... This is his 4th Levinson - he's worked with him 3 times and been great 3 times - HBO's YDK Jack - in his all-time top 10 imo - and no one touches Pacino's Top 10 or Top 12 - 15 performances - no matter what you make it and what you include........HBO's Paterno (the come back started with Paterno (2018 dammit!), The Humbling - his best movie performance between Merchant of Venice (2004) and The Irishman (2019) ......... don't know if Barry Levison will ever make a good movie again but since he's 80 ..............now would be a really great time to start
