If no one minds, I'm thinking of starting up the Movie Awards Redux Oscar Poll, 2023 style. This month will be more laid back than normal. If it's alright with everyone around these parts, I'll start the normal poll in June, but for right now, if you want to suggest a movie for the June poll, the floor is all yours!! Well, what movie do you think will win Best Picture? And in general, what movies do you want to see included in the June 2023 Poll? Thanks in advance for any comments and opinions!!

Great question. The popular thing to say is Killers of the Flower Moon, but there are three issues here: (1) The movie is about 3 hours and 30 minutes. That's too long for a modern day Best Picture winner. Best Picture winners tend to be under 2 hours and 30 minutes. (2) Very rarely does a director direct at least two Best Picture winning films. The last ones were Clint Eastwood and Francis Ford Coppola. Also, the Coen Brothers were the last directors to win Best Picture and be a previous Oscar-winner. (3) The Academy tends to go for the smaller, more independent films.
I am going to dip into the smaller well and go with The Bikeriders. Written and Directed by Jeff Nichols, terrific cast.

As a wise man once said: some bullshit about vaginas coming to life and turning into chicken nuggets or something is probably winning.

Um, I'm not seeing anything about white men winning - particularly the sins of white men - so that knocks out almost all of 2023 that could actually be good - Maestro maybe, Napolean, Flower Moon, The Killer (Fincher), Oppenheimer.......and of course the greatest films ever made in cinema history are usually about the sins of white men....... It's true.........it's damn true..... So I guess: Past Lives....supposed to have seen this already but missed it - hopefully in the next few weeks....

No idea what will win, but I can already tell you what won’t win - Killers of the Flower Moon (for all the reasons Fease listed) and Oppenheimer... and I say this as someone who's probably the biggest Nolan stan on this board...

I'm not sold on Color Purple because the size of the movie outpaces what this director has done before......a feature debut for the screenwriter (I think, too lazy to look it up) .......Warner Brothers hasn't been a player at the BP level recenly.......also a musical not exactly a thriving genre for winners ........ and also old material re-done which gets nods but not BP wins (WSS, All Quiet)........if we're saying Scorsese is fighting against a "he would be a 2 time BP winner" trend and its length (and a "sins of the white male" bias) - then TCP has many signs of a "lots of nods, but not a BP win....." too..... Though I picked Past Lives - which is a directorial debut ........so what do I know......... all of them actually don't hit all the boxes to me anyway, but I'm a notorious pessimist .......
