It’s in play for Pic, Director, Acting 3x (Damon Davis & Affleck) and Screenplay. Discuss!

I hope not. I liked the film but it will be a very weak year overall if it is a major contender by the end. Screenplay/Davis seem most likely at this venture and I could see them being forgotten by the year's end.

I don’t think so. I quite enjoyed it but I’d be pretty surprised if it remained in the awards convo.

Right now I'm feeling Picture, Davis and Screenplay.

I feel like if it were an August/September release, sure, but I don't know if I see the passion carrying it throughout the eleven months till Oscar night. It's not a phenomenon the way Everything Everywhere was.
But I wouldn't rule out a comeback, especially if some touted contenders fall by the wayside. Right now, I'd have it in the 11-15 range -- it could move up or drop out entirely depending on the next several months.

Being as it's extreme pleb stuff that gets a very, very, verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry generous (from me) 7 / 10 it will likely win them all tbh.... Personally I wish they crossed this movie with Cocaine Bear - and called it Cocaine Air (yeah, I know, I'm good at this, thx) - where a bear high on Coke eats all the Air Jordans.....and Viola Davis........ I know I'll be rooting for it to get 0 tbh......

Here are the contenders:
Picture Director Actor (Matt Damon) Supporting Actor (Chris Messina) Supporting Actress (Viola Davis) Original Screenplay
Score Cinematography (Richardson)
Film Editing (Goldenberg)
Before Air, he's directed four films. GBG and The Town only scored a supporting actor nomination. Argo was up for 7 awards, and won for Picture, Screenplay, and Editing. Affleck was suspiciously left out.
Davis is probably the safest, but I suspect it's going to match Moneyball fame. Who knows what the priorities will be for Warner Brothers and Amazon in about 6 and a half months. The Academy does like sports movies, particularly ones which play around with the formula.

Probably not, maybe a supporting nom for Viola Davis but I don’t see this being a big player during awards season. Haven’t seen the film but just seems like a harmless, dad movie. Nothing wrong with that. Would be funny tho to see Damon pick up a nom while he seems to be settling in to the “dad rock” phase of his career following the success of this and Ford v. Ferrari

I could see this being in my top ten for the year because movies suck and it is actually good, but the Academy is probably going to forget about it by the end of the year. Maybe if there was a scene of Damon talking to MJ with them both as rocks.

If it were coming out in November with Affleck and Damon doing all this press, I'd say it'd have a chance of squeaking into Picture, Screenplay, and maybe Davis given the hullabaloo about her just being left off. But it came out in April and I just don't think it'll generate the passion to make it through the entire year. It's pretty damn good, but it doesn't have Moneyball-level acclaim or pathos.

Oh, and I will say I wouldn't be surprised with its early release if it ends up being one of those first screeners out and becomes one of those films that overperforms at SAG and gets everyone scrambling to change their predictions.

Yeah, I think we have to assume Viola is probably getting nominated there if nothing else.

I saw it yesterday. It's an awesome movie, best 2023 release I have come across so far. Unfortunately, I don't really think the Academy will pay any attention here. Davis was also not baity enough from my perspective. But who cares, it's still a great film, as good as it could have been on this subject.
