Sticking with realism. 1. Yeoh. 2. Condon. 3. This board has a fucking meltdown when EEAAO cleans house. Again, you REALLY think Yeoh was better than Blanchett?? If you do, fair enough though it baffles me, but if it's about "somethibg else"? Eh, your prerogative, but you've never seemed like the type to me who judges by anything except quality. And don't get me wrong, I'm one of the biggest EEAAO fans here and think it'll be one of the Top 5 BP winners of the 21st century, but I just don't think Yeoh was anything special. Fine performance, but a distant third to Quan and Hsu for the best performance in the film. Quan is really the heart and soul of the film by a mile, and the one who moved me to tears the most. Though Yeoh's last monologue to Hsu outside the laundromat is incredibly moving and did make me cry, it still doesn't touch Blanchett (or Riseborough and DeArmas, for that matter).

I think it's close but I do prefer Yeoh's performance. I think her work is what grounds the whole multiverse narrative and through the high concept she is allowed to showcase the full range of her talents: sharp comedic timing, top-tier stage combat skills, and incredibly earnest pathos. As I said, it's damn close between Blanchett and Yeoh for me and usually in such a close year I'd be happy with either winning, but the diehard Supercop fan in me really wants to see Yeoh get her moment.

These are my realistic wishes too. You REALLY think she was better than Blanchett, or is it just this "minority pity vote" stuff? I'm Puerto Rican, but if a Latina or even PR actress was up against Blanchett but didn't give a performance anywhere near her level, I would NOT be rooting for her. Yes, she'd make history, but I'd rather that history be made by a GREAT performance. Halle Berry made history, and while that was a very good performance (certainly better than Yeoh's), it was not a great one and Whoopi in "Color Purple" or Bassett in "What's Love Got to Do with It" would have been much more artistically satisfying breakers of that barrier cuz those were 2 truly great performances (Hunter was better than the latter, but still). As a progressive, I'm certainly NOT opposed to affirmative action in many cases, but I definitely am when it comes to awards for talent. That should be strictly a meritocracy. As for me, I want her to win because Blanchett already has Oscars and seems pretty apathetic, while Yeoh would probably be overjoyed. I honestly probably like Blanchett's performance a little more, but I couldn't care less if the academy awards the "best" performance, because they almost never do.

See, I actually do care very much if the Academy recognizes the best performance of the year (and, like I said, of the decade imho) PRECISELY because they almost never do! It makes it all the more special cuz it happens so rarely. I treasure those small victories. But hey, you have a "Twin Peaks: The Return" avatar, so that gives you a "hall pass" for almost any opinion I might disagree with. 🤣👍

I'm with Stephen and Goggins: Kerry, Colin and McDonagh (screenplay).

Tar for BP, Director, and Actress
HM's to Will Smith crashing the event and slapping Chris Rock again and Austin Butler winning and accepting the award in character as Elvis complete with the white Vegas costume and karate moves

1. The less for Everything Everywhere the better, especially Best Picture and supporting actress, go Condon (and Bassett)
2. Ishiguro winning Screenplay
3. Brendan Gleeson pulling a surprise victory in supporting actor and cutting off one of his fingers live in stage because he promised McDonagh and Farrell he would so in case of victory

If Naatu Naatu doesn't win, I'll riot! 🔪 Agreed. Although David Byrne or Diane Warren would be tolerable as well.
