We've got a lot of season to go through before we reach the final Oscar destination so a lot of our suppositions may (and will!) change in the process but still... how about trying to predict them winners early in the game? Who knows, maybe some genius will guess'em all correctly even now If I were to take a shot in the dark, I'd say... BEST PICTURE - Everything Everywhere All at Once BEST DIRECTOR - The Daniels BEST ACTOR - Austin Butler BEST ACTRESS - Cate Blanchett BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR - Ke Huy Quan BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS - Angela Bassett BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY - Everything Everywhere All at Once BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY - Women Talking BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY - All Quiet on the Western Front BEST PRODUCTION DESIGN - Babylon BEST EDITING - Everything Everywhere All at Once BEST ORIGINAL SCORE - Babylon BEST ORIGINAL SONG - "Naatu Naatu", RRR BEST COSTUME DESIGN - Elvis BEST SOUND - Top Gun: Maverick BEST VISUAL EFFECTS - Avatar: The Way of Water BEST MAKEUP & HAIRSTYLING - Elvis BEST INTERNATIONAL FILM - All Quiet on the Western Front BEST ANIMATED FILM - GDT's Pinocchio BEST DOCUMENTARY - Fire of Love BEST LIVE ACTION SHORT - An Irish Goodbye (no clue tbh) BEST ANIMATED SHORT - My Year of Dicks (of course) BEST DOCUMENTARY SHORT - The Elephant Whisperers (see Best Live Action Short)

Best Motion Picture of the Year: The Banshees of InisherinBest Actor: Colin Farrell, The Banshees of InisherinBest Supporting Actress: Kerry Condon, The Banshees of InisherinBest Original Screenplay: The Banshees of Inisherin stop giving me hope I just think it's going to do better overall on the preferential ballot, it's very strong in those two acting categories and I am not convinced that Bassett is as locked in as so many people seem to. Those three potential wins are enough for me to think it would have a strong case for Picture.

Mostly just a feeling (as it's hard to think the Academy would be more generally predisposed to like a movie as "genre" as Everything Everywhere), but the fact it won the Globe over Everything Everywhere and probably is also the favourite to take BAFTA speaks to its strengths, and it matched Everything Everywhere at SAG with nominations and I just can't see it going empty-handed. It's the favourite right now as well to take Original Screenplay, and I am confident it's taking at least one acting prize. That's a combo that makes it a very powerful threat, and I think even though Everything Everywhere is the nomination leader, Banshees wasn't exactly snubbed anywhere and its strength is very much there. Maybe I'm just deluding myself to the bitter end, but I feel Banshees is being underestimated.

I think EEAAO is neck and neck on screenplay and sitting better on potential acting wins (locked on one and in the race on another). Mostly though I think the movies are very close in terms of acclaim and precursors and the academy would probably prefer the more heartwarming one.

It has the home court advantage at BAFTA, but like 1917, which also won the Globe, it doesn't mean it will be in sync with Oscar. It also has been noted that no Best Picture has won without a win at Critics Choice, which it got zeroed out. I can't see Condone besting Bassett. Actor is very competitive. I think Farrell will win BAFTA, but SAG will either be Fraser or Butler.

are we overestimating Le Daniels too much? In a world were EEAAO wins BP, do we really think it wins BD, and screenplay too? I think it makes more sense as a writing pick than a directing one because the original and inventive story is what makes it stand out the most. If Banshees wins screenplay then sure but I think EEAAO really has the edge there.
the other thing to consider is that two of the last three director autobiographical films received major wins. Marriage Story got nothing but Roma got BD and Belfast got original screenplay. With seemingly no path in the acting categories or screenplay, Fabelmans's only chance to net a major win is for Spielberg's directing which he already nabbed at the Globes (not an unimportant precursor in this category). I guess it all comes down to whether the voters wanna share the love but a Spielberg win feels right to me. It's a salute to his career and the fact that this was his most personal film. I just don't see it getting totally blanked.
A come-from-behind Field win would make sense to me too but EEAAO getting BP, BD, and screenplay feels too simple.

To be fair, there hasn't been a true industry precursor for Best Director yet so we don't know how they're going to swing (it's why I have a sneak suspicion about Todd Field), and I think McDonagh's film is far more screenplay-focused than Everything Everywhere (as inventive as it is, it is far flashier and that can be ascribed more to its directorial verve). The Daniels are a solid bet at this stage, but it's all speculative right now.

not to step into Brother Fease 's role as the board's resident statistician but another thing to consider is that Post-2010, only three films have won BP, BD, and screenplay - King's Speech, Birdman, and Parasite. In every other year there's been a split. Now it's true that pre-2010 there are a lot more instances of clean sweeps but in the last 12 years it's been fairly rare. Just something to think about.

That's why I think Banshees is winning Screenplay. We all understand the concept that the early front-runner since 2014 rarely wins Best Picture, sans Nomadland. Right now, I have Everything and Banshees as essentially tied for first place. I am also not convinced The Fabelmans has fallen that far. #3 for me. I can see the following options/combos:
Everything wins everything - Picture, Director, Supporting Actor, Original Screenplay Banshees win Picture, Actor/Supporting Actress, and Original Screenplay The Fabelmans wins Director to honor his childhood, but we see Picture and Screenplay going to Banshees or Everything.
We will have to see how the Guilds view Everything / Banshees / The Fabelmans.
