Faves All Quiet on the Western Front's nominations Close and The Quiet Girl Paul Mescal
Least faves ANA DE ARMAS. One of the worst nominations ever. I'm officially on her hate train. Judd Hirsch and Michelle Williams Elvis' nominations Berger's snub Hsu over de Leon who deserved it so much more
I think that's it. I'm really happy for Condon, Gleeson, Yeoh, Farrell, Nighy etc. but they were always locks.

I don't really care about what was nominated except that Elvis in the Best Picture category sucks, but I'm really sad that Dolly de Leon didn't get a nom.
And, not that she was ever in the running, but a surprise nom for Zar Amir Ebrahimi in Holy Spider would have made me happy too.

Riseborough getting in is wild (I haven't seen To Leslie yet). Feels like Cotillard's nom in 2016.

My guy, I used this exact argument against you when you were waffling on about Krieps and brought up Cotillard as an example, but you dismissed it.

I don't think the comparisons to Bardem, Cotillard, Rampling, etc. are really all that valid, as they were all in the conversation and campaigning to varying degrees throughout the season. Riseborough came out of nowhere with Paltrow posting about her on Instagram.

That was earlier in the season and I was hoping Krieps would be nominated for a BAFTA and win NSFC. I knew she wasn't getting anywhere after she wasn't longlisted there.

Including the Hirsch nom in Favorites as well because it's a great proof that small, scene-stealing supporting performances deserve recognition as well as opposed to only bloated ones.

I don’t really have a favorite. I was hoping Avatar would get a nom for Original Score. Bummed it didn’t
Least favorite: - BTH for Causeway lmao - EEAO getting nominated beyond Lead Actress and Best Supporting Actor. That movie sucked. JLC especially getting nominated is a joke.

Favs:
- Top Gun getting in for adapted screenplay (not that it's my pick but I love the novelty) and film editing - Happy with Avatar getting what it got but not being over saturated - Condon for BSA - I havent seen it yet but I'm generally happy with Riseborough getting in with her grassroots type of last-minute campaigning; I'm all for it and excited to see To Leslie. - Marcel! I know in the early days people were doubting it could get in with its mesh of live action/animation style, but i love that it did. - Farrell (and probably all of the Banshees cast) but i don't know why it didn't click that this is his first nod, we talk about him so much i think i've imagined that he's been nominated when he never was.
Least Favs - Decision to Leave...getting nothing.....wtf? - Elvis for cinematography -Williams and Hirsh from Fablemans - Hsu and JLC for BSA

FAVE--Complete lack of The Woman King is my favourite nomination. --Tar for picture, director, screenplay, editing, and cinematography? How is this not winning Best Picture? --An Ostrich Told Me the World Is Fake and I Think I Believe It --Le Pupille... How is these two making a short film together not a bigger deal? --Paper Boi, Hirsch, and Hsu. So happy for the three of them. --My actual favourite is The Quiet Girl in the international category. There's plenty of others I like, but they were all expected, so no big deal. LEAST FAVE--WHOEVER TOOK DEADWYLER'S SPOT! --Women Talking in Picture (screenplay too, but I'm a Polleymath, so fuck it) --Elvis in hair/makeup and ESPECIALLY Elvis in fucking editing. Elvis in every category really, but I don't hate any of the others except picture, but that was probably always going to happen. --EEAAO in editing also. --Batman getting a bunch of nominations and missing the Cinematography one it actually deserved. --Fucking Bardo's beautiful load of absolute wankery. --Avatar in Production Design. --Poor Diane Warren. Why do they keep doing this to her? I just hope she doesn't lose to another pop star. --Turning Red --Triangle of Sadness in director and screenplay. --I love Jamie Lee Curtis, I guess I'm kind of happy for her if we are to believe her life is going to change in any way for the better based on an Oscar nom, but that nomination, expected as it was, is an absolute joke.
