She's remembered as a princess and as a fashion icon - less so for her acting, despite being an Oscar-winning Hitchcock muse... What do you guys think of her as an actress? (And please, no comments about her sex life - I'm genuinely curious as to what you think of her acting abilities. )

Her Oscar-winning performance is pretty horrendous, especially considering she is so much better in the other films she was in that year. Hitch knew how to use her to great effect, but I wouldn't say she was a particularly strong actress, considering how routinely she would get outclassed by her co-stars.

I will talk about her sex life, because I think that was exagerated. After all, most of these rumors were comented in a savage way after her death. If she was so unfaithful wife Prince Rainier should remaried soon. And he never have taken a wife or public seing with a girlfriend or mistress.
Its hard to belive that a 26 Hollywood actress married virgin with a reingning monarch, but also its even harder to believe she was a nyphomaniac.
As an actress is difficult to classify because she made very few movies, which characters were more or less the same.
However I loved all the performance Ive seen: The Hitchcock movies, Mogambo The Swan Princes and High Society. I never seen the country girl.

Thoughts on her Oscar-nominated performance in Mogambo? I definitely think Gardner stole the show there, but it's always fun when two legendary women share the screen together. They were lifelong friends after the shoot...

hugobolso - For me, her work there is quite stilted and mannered (particularly when compared to the earthy, natural magnetism of Gardner)... As mentioned above, I think Hitchcock is the only director she worked with who truly knew how to use her icy presence to great effect.

I think that Garner was much better and she was the lead, but Kelly as newcomer (was her third movie) in a supporting role was a great too. But as I said I haven't seen in more than 20 years.- So my memory is not so good. Not only but also I've seen doubled.-
