Everyone and their Mother was predicting that 'La La Land' was going win Best Picture at this Year's Academy Awards. But after an embarrassing and confusing mixup, It was revealed the Academy decided to be progressive and choose the important winner. 'Moonlight' was revealed to be the Best Motion Picture of the Year to apparent... Shock???
According to the majority of Dumb Blokes and Tarts publishing articles around the Web; 'La La Land' was apparently a lock to win Best Picture due to it being a Nostalgic Musical that would sit well with Academy Voters, along with Its 14 nominations and Guild Awards, It essentially spoiled the Film's Guaranteed Victory. It was Supposedly the Fluff Musical that every Snob Article Writer rolled their eyes at, while admiring 'Moonlight' as "Poetic," or some shit.
"IT'S A COMING OF AGE STORY ABOUT A GAY BLACK MAN" they said. "IT DESERVES TO WIN BUT WON'T BECAUSE IT'S IMPORTANT AND THAT'S WHY IT'S A GOOD MOVIE" they said. Okay, first off, how can 'La La Land' win due to those reasons? I KNEW 'Moonlight' was going to win, and I'm proud in saying that. Especially in the face of the Trump Administration, and the "#OscarsSoWhite" fiasco which happened last year. Why did you all think the latter? I mean, just think about it, what would they really choose? A Film about an Aspiring White Couple in L.A, Or a Homosexual Black Man who grows up in poverty. I know that sounds one sided and you probably think I'm barely scratching the surface. Instead of what's historically accurate, I believe we should think about what's politically correct. Would the Academy really vote 'Birdman' or 'The Artist' over 'Moonlight?' Exactly, I didn't think so.
I was more shocked the moment they announced 'La La Land' to be honest.

I think that when there was a poll back in February among people that were formerly on IMDb's MA board, that 1 person did indeed predict Moonlight, so I don't think you were alone.

It was my guess at first, then everyone else had me convinced on La La Land.

On this board ? Who knows, I didn't pay a lot of attention to this season but on the movie podcast I listen to, a few of them were comfortably predicting Moonlight with the preferential ballot as one of the main reason why.
