not including slippers and shit. but like shoes that you wear outside. i've known for awhile now that some americans (during house parties esp for example) will leave their shoes on and even leave their shoes inside the house during regular ass days. go to a house party in canada and when you open the door there's like 60 pairs of shoes on the front mat lmao, and never ever do people leave their shoes on while in their house. people will actually look at you in disgust if you try to do it here.
i'm sure it's exaggerated of how many americans do it, esp when you watch reality tv, movies, etc.

I'm not sure I understand because you mentioned house parties - like if I go a party in a house (um,as opposed to a cave, say), I don't take my shoes off unless it's an orgy - is it an orgy? - if so, no shoes......in other peoples houses, the shoes stay on unless they ask me to remove them - and unless it's an orgy - or a Canadian orgy (which is just 2 people and a six pack  ) .......in my own house no shoes though ........  |

I shudder at the idea of it tbh... The thing that JangoB mentioned where American media always depicts people wearing shoes in the house has loooong been one of my biggest pet peeves. I know there are folks who do that (like if you have a sharp-clawed dog or something) but in my entire life I don't recall every being in anyone's house where wearing shoes inside was not only accepted but commonplace ... and you won't hear me complaining. |

I always do this too even if the people that live there keep their shoes on. I don’t know I always just take them off at home, and it feels somewhat disrespectful/weird to me to possibly track dirt through someone’s home even if my shoes are likely clean. Living in Ohio for most of my life, it feels like more people do it because at least when I was younger, I don’t remember any of my friends or family doing that. |

Yes. When I get home, I don't take them off until I go upstairs (carpeted) and retire to my room. Downstairs is tile. I don't put on my shoes to walk around the house, though. Only flip flops if I go downstairs.

If I'm visiting, I leave the shoes on unless asked to take them off or if it is not otherwise made clear to remove them. In my own home, I remove them for comfort. In others' homes, I want to get out as soon as possible anyway, and I don't feel comfortable removing my shoes when that hampers my chance for a quick escape. People will expect me to socialize if I look too "at home."  |
