Why is David Fincher getting that award? You have plenty of French artists who could get that award and many Americans who deserve it more tbh - that is what Canada should do and stuff (no disrespect, but you know, you're Canada ) - not the dignified French film industry ffs - and last year Blanchett I guess got it........seems very eager to please Hollywood .....

I don't mind that policy - their awards, their rules.....although the problem with Polanski winning a couple years back wasn't that he "could have" attended - he didn't attend anyway when he won his 5th Best Director Award.....his 5th!........the problem was that he won at all.............which is what "really" bothered those who were bothered ......and why Haenel walked out, because she was, you know, bothered (um) ........... it wasn't his physical presence at the ceremony...it was rather - in his case - the celebration of his Art.....because the Art and the Artist and what not....

.......will be interesting to see if any others banned .....actually......win.......
