A pretty wonderful group of films, don't you think? If you had an Oscar ballot, which one would've gotten your vote? For me: 1. Tootsie 2. The Verdict 3. E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial 4. Gandhi 5. Missing

1. Gandhi 2. Missing 3. The Verdict 4. E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial 5. Tootsie
The first three are pretty damn great, I don't love E.T. as much as everyone else of my generation but it's perfectly fine, and I never really cared much for Tootsie.

Missing, one of the most under appreciated/strangely forgotten films of the 80s.

Missing, one of the most under appreciated/strangely forgotten films of the 80s. Always glad to see a fellow Missing fan 'round these parts. Jack and Sissy are so fucking good.

* I think I'd actually vote for a film I don't like as much actually - It's between The Verdict and Tootsie and I think, today, I will pick the comedy since no one ever does * All the movies are thumbs up - Missing is a very good drama that Hollywood used to make regularly for adults who wore suits and dresses and now makes Glass Onion, Elvis and Maverick for people who wear sweat pants and jeggings....... Gandhi is sort of like Malcolm X later was (1992) - very hit or miss - very episodic - a movie with a great biopic lead performance (an equal one? a greater one?) - except it isn't as trendy to like or as politically correct to like especially in a country as toxicallly racist as America (sarcasm)......it's a good movie, not a great one - the greatness is in the lead work only.....should be required viewing for school children .......and that is not a joke but a compliment........ * E.T. is a nice movie - not a thumbs down - but as a person of faith I prefer my Christ allegories to be more holy and less blasphemous like say Jesus of Montreal - and that's a Canadian movie ffs ......and Canada has a cinema tradition like I have a gift for being subtle (um) and I also prefer them not to be made by an overpraised man-child ...........and to you know actually be religious instead of the David Bowie Space Buddha version ..........and also .......name the character J.C. instead.......and if you think that's too obvious ..........see the rest of the movie Jesus! (no pun) .........Awfully snarky today huh, pacinoyes?

I really want to get my mom this plush from Build-A-Bear. E.T. is one of her favorite movies.

JangoB - She does! Hopefully you can see the pic I shared in the post - it's just a stuffed E.T. - he points his finger and it lights up - so sweet!

I... haven't seen Missing and The Verdict yet The other three are brilliant (Tootsie), inspiring (Gandhi) and deservedly iconic (E.T.). E.T. gets my vote.

Gandhi by a pretty big margin especially since Sophie's Choice wasn't nominated which I always forget.

1. Tootsie 2. The Verdict 3. E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial 4. Gandhi NS Missing Top 2 are really close - not only great movies overall, but also feature a career-best Newman performance and maybe a top 5 Hoffman performance. You ALSO have Kingsley's iconic Gandhi turn... quite an acting powerhouse BP lineup... and there's E.T. (jk, E.T. is still great)
