This Christmas weekend isn't gonna be particularly jolly at the box office.

Babylon looks like it's going to bomb hard too. They aren't even going to report early numbers for it. Not a good sign.

The wide release for Babylon was the dead giveaway. Once again, the Globes prove they can be brought by recusing movies that are DOA.

Ugh...I'm a little burnt out on these black icon musician biopics being rubber stamped cookie cutter type films. The Whitney Houston film this year and the Aretha Franklin one a year ago. Say what you want about Elvis but at least Luhrmann stylized the hell out of it. Get Spike Lee to direct one of these.

LOL The people involved need to have a good connection to the subject. Straight Outta Compton worked becasue F. Gary Gray was close with Ice Cube and was going to do NWA justice. These biopics lately I'm just like whatever.

Feels like the wells been done dry at this point.

I'd love more movies about a specific moments in a performers time, or maybe more experimental films like I'm Not There.

Avatar 2, mmm given the storm, it's not that bad. Babylon though, is a bomb as everyone expected.

$3.3M? that's worse than Amsterdam. What happened to Pitt's drawing power?

$3.3M? that's worse than Amsterdam. What happened to Pitt's drawing power? Eh! The movie was always a risky measure, and he just did Bullet Train, which was successful. Plus actors don't attract people like they used to. If something looks bad or off putting, people stay away.

No Santa rally in the stock market
Christmas weekend box office is a massive bust (but how much is due to the storm?)
Guys I think we’re in a recession despite them changing the definition of recession and fudging the numbers to make it seem like we’re not actually in one

Rough year for Margot Robbie between this and Amsterdam. Hopefully Barbie is a hit for her next year.
As for Chazelle, don’t know if he’s going to get another $80 million budget anytime soon.

I had an eye on this because this seemed like Chazelle's shot to move into Spielberg/Nolan territory as a guy who can do big budget original films. It's back to Coen Bros./Wes Anderson/PTA type territory for him. Although he does seem like he has more crowd pleasing instincts than those guys so he could always have another La La Land that makes a big profit against a low budget and get another shot at something like this. Especially if he does another musical.

Avatar 2 proving its really a weekend movie, even if Disney is probably low-balling its weekend. Poor for the other openers, as expected.
